Laundry is the chore that never ends. There is no amount of tidying up or organizing or careful planning that can prevent the laundry from piling up, especially when it’s hot outside or I’m hitting my gym goals and need to change out of sweaty clothes twice a day. I’ll even risk embarrassing myself by admitting that sometimes I do my laundry wrapped in a towel right before I hop in the shower so that even for just 15 minutes I can soak in the blissful feeling of knowing all of my clothes are clean at the same time and no dirty laundry is hanging over my head.
When I was a kid, my favorite candles were the ones that smelled like freshly washed laundry. As I got older, I started to realize how strange that is if you think about it. It’s the only type of home fragrance that’s formulated to smell like a cleaning product. Imagine if there were bleach scented candles? Windex scented candles? Sure, they’d all smell clean, but what if instead of making candles that smell like laundry detergent, laundry detergent smelled like candles? Expensive candles.
It sounds simple enough, right? And, while plenty of brands have tried to make laundry detergent smell a little bit more than just “clean,” so far only one has truly made doing laundry feel as luxurious as burning a candle from the likes of Diptyque or Maison Margiela: Laundry Sauce.
Confessions of a Self-Proclaimed Laundry Pro

From the very first moment I heard about Laundry Sauce, I knew I had to try it. Despite the constant battle to stay on top of my laundry— or perhaps because of it— I consider myself a bit of a laundry pro. I’m pretty great at removing stains, handwashing delicate pieces, and removing pills from fabrics like wool and cashmere. I take pride in taking care of my clothes because I want them to last. So, naturally, I want them to smell good, too.
Laundry Sauce is a brand devoted to making laundry feel more sophisticated, and, dare I say, maybe even a little bit fun. You can shop by product or scent, and since I knew I wanted to try the laundry detergent pods, scent booster, and dryer sheets, it was really just a matter of choosing which kind.
I couldn’t decide on a single scent, so I opted for three: Mojave Peach, Egyptian Rose, and Australian Sandalwood. Truthfully, it was a tough decision because they all sounded divine. Mojave Peach felt summery and playful, while Egyptian Rose was a must because my all-time favorite scent is Roses by Diptyque. (The candle is incredible, but if you haven’t tried the eau de parfum you’re seriously missing out.) Lastly, I thought my husband would really appreciate the Sandalwood because that’s one of his favorite scents.
Into the Washer & Dryer
When my Laundry Sauce package arrived there was, unsurprisingly, no shortage of dirty laundry. For once, I couldn’t wait to get rolling. I opened up the box, and was immediately impressed by the packaging. Everything comes in cardboard instead of plastic, which is really important to me because I am trying to eliminate as much plastic from my life as possible. On top of that, the packaging is honestly beautiful. If I didn’t know better, I’d think I was opening up a box for a designer fragrance, not laundry pods or scent boosters.
I shoved a pile of dirty towels into my washing machine, tossed in a Mojave Peach pod and a little bit of the scent booster and let the permanent press cycle do its thing. 54 minutes later, I threw my clean towels into the dryer with a dryer sheet. Even though they were wet, I could immediately tell that they smelled amazing. I couldn’t wait for them to dry.
Fast forward to an hour and a half later and my towels were warm and toasty. They smelled even better than I could have possibly imagined. All of a sudden I couldn’t wait to do my next load of laundry, and I really couldn’t wait to use my new clean towels.
Shortly thereafter I tried out the Egyptian Rose scent and Australian Sandalwood, both of which are just luxurious and heavenly as I hoped they’d be. I am officially spoiled. Now all of my laundry smells like the fanciest, most artfully crafted candles, and slowly but surely my linen closet and wardrobe do, too.
They’re Not Like Other Laundry Pods

Aren’t laundry pods notoriously terrible for the planet? Well, usually, but not always— and not in the case of Laundry Sauce. Not only is the packaging sustainable, but the detergent pods are biodegradable and they’re designed to wash clothing efficiently in cold water, which can reduce energy usage. It’s also formulated using natural, plant-based enzymes that are effective at removing stains, not just making your clothes and linens smell nice.
The laundry detergent formula is also ultra-concentrated, which helps cut down on packaging, carbon emissions, and transport waste. They’re made without parabens, phthalates, bleach, or dyes, and the scents are sourced largely from natural sources. No product is perfect, but Laundry Sauce is trying.
Laundry is not the most exciting household chore, but Laundry Sauce has helped me romanticize the process of washing, folding, and putting it away. The care that the brand puts into curating each scent motivates me to put the same amount of time and attention into caring for my clothes. While I am, at times, guilty of overconsumption, Laundry Sauce has made me rethink what I value in my wardrobe. I want to slow down, shop smarter, and take care of what I have with products that are kinder to the planet.
Funnily enough, since switching to Laundry Sauce, I also find myself more excited to host overnight guests because I like being able to make their sheets and towels smell nice, like they’re staying in a fancy hotel. It really is the little things that make the biggest impact, after all. Who knew a seemingly simple scent could result in such a big change? Try it out for yourself, and I’m sure you’ll see what I mean.
