I've been slowly making clean swaps across my most-used products. Some have been quick wins: Stasher bags, organic sheets, and non-toxic cleaning products are all staples now. But deodorant is one swap I just haven’t been able to nail until I tried Primally Pure.

- The Blue Tansy scent can be a bit overpowering for those sensitive to smell; with that said, each product does offer multiple variants if you’re looking for a more subtle scent.
Natural Deodorant That Works
I’ve cycled through at least 7 different “natural” deodorant brands in just as many years, all of them claiming that their product is effective. But, in my experience, they consistently underdelivered, forcing a hurried mid-afternoon re-application.
During my quest for an effective non-toxic deodorant, I always looked at the label to see if the formula was “aluminum-free” because tbh, that’s what I always heard was the ingredient to avoid. Little did I know that avoiding aluminum is only part of the equation. According to Primally Pure, one of the most problematic ingredients hiding in even "natural" deodorant labels is fragrance. These scents can contain 3,500+ chemicals, including endocrine disruptors, respiratory irritants, and carcinogens, all concealed under a single ingredient listing the FDA allows brands to protect as a trade secret.
Unlike many “natural” deodorants, Primally Pure’s products are scented exclusively with organic essential oils – no synthetic fragrance, aluminum, parabens, or talc – and I can pronounce all of the ingredients.
The organic formula is built around a few key ingredients: organic arrowroot powder, organic coconut oil, tallow from 100% grass-fed cows, organic beeswax, and non-nano zinc oxide, with a mindfully-balanced dose of baking soda to neutralize odor without irritating skin. For those with a known baking soda sensitivity, they also have a Baking Soda Free formula that delivers the same all-day protection in a gentler formula.
While I loved the subtle scent of the Vanilla + Citrus and Blue Tansy varieties, my daily go-to is now the detoxifying Charcoal deodorant. Its organic eucalyptus and peppermint oil provides a very subtle, but refreshing scent that’s not overpowering. What’s more: a few swipes lasted me all day, even through a heat wave, a game of tag on the playground and a brisk walk with my dog. I was stunned how effective the formula was. No wonder 12,000+ users gave it 5 stars.

I've tested a lot of products, and there's nothing more rewarding than finding a brand that delivers on exactly what they say they will, especially in a space as crowded as clean skincare.
While I initially came to Primally Pure because of their best-selling deodorant, the Clean Start Kit is what I’d actually recommend starting with. It bundles their best-selling products (deodorant, lip oil and body butter), making it a no-brainer for anyone who is curious about the brand, but doesn’t know where to begin.
