My husband and I love to watch Shark Tank together after our kiddo goes to bed. Most pitches, I’ll admit, aren’t memorable and I quickly forget their overly-niche ideas. And if they are memorable, it’s usually for all of the wrong reasons (cue Mr. Wonderful roasting someone). But, there are the few that stick out in our memories for the right reasons: and the “Original Human Dog Bed” ($499) by Plufl is one of them.

I’ll admit that I laughed out loud during the pitch. It was super well-done, but let’s get real… the idea sounds ridiculous, no? My husband, on the other hand, had a very different impression: he had to have it. For months, he begged and begged for it… and finally, his dreams came true.

We like

  • Case is machine-washable for easy cleaning
  • Ultra-soft fabric
  • High-quality orthopedic foam for relieving back-pain
  • Snuggling with your pets has never been better
  • Kevin Jonas and his family do movie nights in their Plufls
  • Comes in multiple colors

We don't like

  • Higher price point
  • Quite large / takes up a big footprint
  • My husband prefers to sleep there instead of in bed!

Dog Naps are the New Catnaps

Plufl was founded by two tired college students who, in their own words, “took a lot of naps.” In their time napping around campus, they were ultimately disappointed by the lack of good napping spots – and decided to do something about it. The idea hit founders Noah Silverman and Yuki Kinoshita when they “saw a large dog napping blissfully in a giant dog bed at our local college coffee shop.” They then went to work creating the world’s first dog bed for humans.

Did You Say “Human Dog Bed?”

Yes, I said “human dog bed.” It honestly sounds ridiculous, and even the Sharks thought so, too… until they laid in it. (Spoiler alert: they ended up doing a deal with Mark Cuban and Lori Greiner.) When it arrived at our door, I was out picking up our son a few minutes away. By the time I got back, my husband had totally unboxed the Plufl and assembled it. From what he told me, unboxing and assembly was pretty straight-forward. He took it out of the box and fluffed the bolsters (what would become the edges of the bed). He did skip the next step of letting the parts sit out for 24 hours so they can expand… whoops. He then inserted the bolsters and the pad into the case and zipped it all up.

Laying in it when I got home was a very pleasant surprise. While I was a little irritated at first by the amount of space it took up in our already-tiny living room, lying in it nearly changed my mind on that. The Original Human Dog Bed  is seriously the softest fabric I have ever felt… no exaggeration. Better than any dog bed, better than my baby’s clothes, better than your softest blanket, I have to imagine this totally vegan fabric is why the price tag is what it is. Beyond that, it is constructed with orthopedic foam at the pad for back pain, as well as a synthetic fiber fill around the edges to relieve neck tension.

The Siesta Test

Plufl promises the very best nap you’ve ever had, so we of course did the hard labor of testing out a nap for you all. I know, I know… the sacrifices we make for brands! Just kidding. For real though, napping in it is downright luxurious. It does feel unique to napping on the bed or a couch. It is much lighter and there’s no need to make your bed after!

Perhaps my favorite part of the Plufl is that it can fit more than one being! Whether you like to snuggle up with your S.O. or a furry friend, the Plufl has room for that. My husband is obsessed with snuggling our dogs in the Plufl, which makes me super thankful that the bed’s cover is machine washable, because our pups are admittedly a little stinky. They look so cute snuggled up in there together and frankly, it is pretty nice to hug them after a long day. They certainly prefer it over their own three (!) dog beds that they already have laying around the house. My chief complaint, as I alluded to earlier, is certainly that it is not a small addition to your home or apartment. Plufl did think about this, including a strap that helps it fold to be stored more compactly. Still, it is large, so do be mindful of that when purchasing.

I’m a Believer

I’ve read quite a bit of feedback on the Plufl that other folks have put out there, mostly on IG. A lot of people really struggle to justify the price tag – and I don’t blame them. That being said, these two founders put together a Tempur-Pedic-level product here. Designed with your body and daily stress relief in mind, I doubt the haters have one of their own at home. I was admittedly a hater, too. And now, as I sit writing this in our sweet little retreat, I’m forced to eat my own words: Plufl rocks our living room and will rock yours, too.
