I’ve worn Flannel’s Lenny Satin Lace Pant and Top more times than I can count at this point, and without fail, every time someone asks me where it’s from. It’s become a closet staple that I reach for whenever I’m in the mood to feel put together. I love a matching set because you never really have to think too much about it. Flannel’s satin drapes so beautifully too. The lace detailing adds a little extra whimsy to the set, and the overall fit is just really, really good. Months later, I’m still finding excuses to wear it.
Flannel is an Australian lifestyle label founded in 2006 by sisters Kristy and Brooke Lawrence. Nearly two decades later, it’s still independently owned and family-run, with Kristy’s husband, John Lawrence, serving as CFO and other family members involved in the business. Their collection has grown to include womenswear, menswear, accessories, and footwear, with sixteen boutiques across Australia and stores in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and London.
As someone who will take just about any excuse to travel, I love that a bit of the world seems to find its way into every Flannel collection. The Lawrences have looked to Portugal, Copenhagen, Marrakech, and beyond, bringing back little discoveries from local artisans to their Melbourne studio. Those far-flung references show up in little ways throughout the clothes, from unexpected fabrics to vintage-inspired details.
The brand has also built an impressive star-studded following. Katie Holmes, Andrew Garfield, Harrison Ford, Jennifer Lawrence, Lily Rabe, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Kylie Minogue have all been spotted wearing Flannel, which makes sense given the style-meets-quality combo.
The Fit & The Fabric
The Lenny Pant ($320) and Lenny Satin Lace Cami ($230), both shown here in Vanilla (note the color name is a bit deceiving, it’s a true butter yellow, not cream), are made from a 48% viscose and 52% rayon satin. The fabric is probably the first thing you notice when you put them on. It’s incredibly soft and fluid, but it has enough weight that it falls nicely rather than clinging to the body.
It also has a softer, almost washed finish rather than that super glossy sheen satin can sometimes have. In daylight, it catches the light beautifully, and at night, it doesn’t suddenly turn shiny the second a camera flash or restaurant lighting hits it. A small detail, maybe, but one I’ve come to appreciate after wearing it again and again.
The details are what really sold me on the set. Eyelash lace traces the hem and side seams of the pants and frames the V-neck of the top, and tiny pintucks and drawstring cuffs give the otherwise floaty silhouette a little shape. Satin and lace can so easily read as lingerie, but the Lenny never really goes there. It’s relaxed and unfussy, and I’ve worn it out to dinner just as easily as I’ve worn it during the day.
Both pieces run true to size and are available in XS–XL. They’re a little more precious when laundry day rolls around. Flannel recommends a cold hand wash, drying flat or in the shade, and ironing inside out on a cool setting.
Why It's Worth The Investment
Spending more than $600 on the full set puts it firmly in investment territory. But months into owning it, I’m still reaching for it, which is usually my best measure of whether an expensive purchase was actually worth it.
The quality holds up to the price tag, too. The stitching is beautiful, the lace feels like part of the garment rather than an afterthought, and the satin still drapes just as nicely after plenty of wear. But what I appreciate most is how much life I’ve gotten out of it.
For me, an investment piece should earn its place in my closet. I want to wear it to dinner, throw it in my suitcase, style the pieces separately, and pull it out six months later with the same excitement I had when it first arrived. The Lenny set has become exactly that kind of purchase. Flannel describes its pieces as being designed to drape gently against the body while staying comfortable and effortless. Normally, I’d take language like that with a grain of salt. In this case, it’s pretty accurate.
Styling It Day To Night
I originally pictured the Lenny set as a nice dinner outfit, but I’ve ended up pulling the pieces apart almost as often as I wear them together.
At night, I keep the full set pretty simple with a barely-there heel and minimal jewelry. During the day, I’ll wear the top with denim and an oversized blazer, or pair the pants with a white tee, soft knit, or tank and flats. I also love a slightly oversized sweater thrown over the full set, with just a bit of lace peeking out at the hem.
That’s probably what surprised me most about the Lenny set. For a set that looks decidedly dressy at first glance, it slips into my everyday wardrobe remarkably easily. I’m not waiting around for the right dinner reservation or occasion to wear it, and at this price point, I wouldn’t want to.
If You Know, You Know
Flannel is a brand you’ll feel cool knowing about before everyone else catches on. The designs are beautiful with thoughtful details that give each piece its own point of view.
The Lenny set was a little bit of a splurge, but months later, I’d make the same purchase again. Its CPW (Cost Per Wear) has practically paid for itself at this point. It has seen dinners, traveled the world in my suitcase, been worn together and separately, and still feels exciting every time I put it on. Considering I can rarely wear it without someone asking me where it’s from, I have a feeling Flannel won’t stay under the radar for much longer.
