Is there anything more frustrating than buying a toddler cup that immediately leaks, molds, or ends up impossible to clean? Same. After cycling through more cups than I care to admit, I realized most just don’t hold up to real-life use. So I tested the most popular toddler cups, sippy cups, and straw cups to find the ones actually worth buying in 2026. From spill-proof designs to easy-clean straws (a must), here are the only ones that made the cut.
How We Tested the Best Toddler Cups
Every cup in this guide was tested in real-life scenarios by a toddler (the toughest critic) and a parent (the one doing the cleaning).
We evaluated each cup based on:
Leakage: Does it spill when tipped or inevitably thrown?
Ease of Cleaning: Dishwasher-safe? Hidden mold traps?
Durability: Can it survive drops, tosses, and daily use?
Toddler Usability: Can little hands actually use it independently?
Value: Is it worth the price for how long it lasts?
Types of Toddler Cups (And Which to Choose)
Not all toddler cups are created equal. Here’s how to choose the right one:
Sippy Cups: Great for transitioning from bottles, but best used short-term
Straw Cups: Support oral development and are widely recommended by experts
Open Cups: Help toddlers learn real drinking skills (expect spills)
Weighted Straw Cups: Ideal for younger babies learning coordination
Size: 15 oz | Leakage: None | Cleaning: Medium difficulty | Value: 4/5
I’ve only recently been introduced to Bentego, but I am happy I was! I love the fun colors this cup offers that are somehow satisfying to both mom and kids. The leakage was zero on this cup, which is awesome, and I do love the little carrying loop. My only complaint is that when I tried sucking this myself, it was kind of challenging, as it requires you to bite and suck simultaneously to get water. My son doesn’t seem to mind, though.

Size: 12 oz | Leakage: None | Cleaning: Pretty easy, though cup is not dishwasher safe | Value: 5/5
Sometimes, you really do get the pleasure of saving the best for last. This was a last-minute add to the lineup, but I am so glad it was! With fun colors (but no hideous logos or patterns), this straw cup is perfect for my 2-year-old. It doesn’t spill, fits in cup holders, and keeps drinks significantly colder than other cups because of its insulation. It feels like it will grow with him; this isn’t just a cup for a year or less. For $10, you cannot beat this value… and I’ll be buying every color!

Size: 10 oz | Leakage: Some when tipped | Cleaning: Easy | Value: 5/5
I’m a total sucker for a multi-purpose product, which is why I was psyched to be introduced to Baby’s Brew’s 2-in-1 snack cup. Designed to be both a snack cup and a cup with a straw, this is a great addition to your diaper bag, especially because it collapses. It is dishwasher safe, which is lovely for easy cleaning. Be aware that it is not designed to be spill-proof if your kiddo tips it upside down when configured as a snack cup or sippy.

Size: 15 or 20 oz | Leakage: Actually leak proof when closed, spill-proof when open | Cleaning: Moderately Easy | Value: 5/5
My son refers to this one as the “big boy” water bottle – and with good reason – it looks like one! With 11 different colors to choose from, this bottle is not only fun to look at, but fun for all. I love the size. Even though it’s big, my son handles it well. It also is somehow truly leak proof when closed and spill-proof when open… it is a toddler miracle! We use this at his weekly gymnastics and while he can’t articulate it, I think he’s proud to tote it around. I do wish it fit in the cup holders in his carseat, but alas, it does not. However, at $20, this feels like one we’ll have for a while, making it a 5/5 value from me.

Size: 12 oz | Leakage: None when lid is closed, lots when open | Cleaning: Easy | Value: 4/5
Despite being a huge baby brand, I don’t think I’ve previously owned anything by Chicco prior to this cup. Sometimes, experience and being a big brand means excellent, tried-and-tested designs – and this cup fits that bill. We have two of these tumblers, which definitely challenges my 26-month-old son in his drinking. It is trickier to open, so he sometimes needs our help. With an open-rim spout, he is forced to drink without a straw, which I do think will help him transition to a standard cup at some point. It is completely dishwasher safe, making it incredibly simple to clean. Other parents love that this fits in most strollers and car seat cup holders (brilliant) and the fact that the lids and spouts are interchangeable with other cups. The size is good for my son, but we do have to watch him still to ensure the entire thing doesn’t end up in his lap!

Size: 8 oz | Leakage: Leaks some, can’t turn it upside-down | Cleaning: Easy | Value: 4/5
It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of ezpz and their SLP-designed products to support your child’s development. It was from this brand that I actually learned the importance of a child drinking through a straw to support speech development. For older toddlers (24 months+), the brand’s Happy Cup system supports this goal, even allowing for a later developmental milestone of drinking from the open cup without the lid and straw. I love that it is dishwasher-safe, but the opaque straw does make cleaning the straw a bit more difficult. I have given this one under less supervision (e.g. playtime, outside) and it did get tipped and the lid taken off by a kiddo. While I love it, for us, this is a great cup only for times of total supervision e.g. meal time.

Size: 4 oz | Leakage: Drips a little when tipped all the way | Cleaning: Easy | Value: 4/5
The adorable Lalo Little Cup is so appropriately named! At just 4 oz, this is a great option for younger kids ages 4 months and up. The little handles are perfectly sized and the FDA-approved non-toxic silicone makes me happy. Cleaning is easy, as it is dishwasher safe with minimal parts. It is definitely on the pricier side for a small cup, so I’d suggest bundling with another cup or other mealtime essentials.

Size: 10 oz | Leakage: Not spill-proof, but this is by design | Cleaning: Moderately Easy | Value: 4.5/5
I’d never heard of the Lollacup prior to this roundup, but I sure wish I had! Like many of my favorite parenting products, this was designed by a mom who saw a problem and filled a need. When Hanna Lim’s daughter wasn’t transitioning from bottles to traditional sippy cups, Hanna created the Lollacup with a weighted straw to meet the need. Having found that many spill-proof valves caused suction issues for kids, this was intentionally designed to not be spill-proof. The weighted straw makes drinking easier by reaching the liquid while tilted and the adorable handles make it easy for little hands to handle. I personally love that it is dishwasher safe, although the brand does advocate for it to be hand-washed if possible. I’ve started to use it with my 7-month-old and he has taken to it just as well as my 2-year-old!

Size: 10 oz | Leakage: Cannot tip upside down (by design) | Cleaning: Easy | Value: 5/5
We had used some of Munchkin’s weighted straw cups early on in what I call the “boddler” (baby + toddler) days with my son, so my expectations were high with this one. Though it is not spill-proof, this is by design to help your child understand what drinking from a “real” cup is like, while still aiding them with the straw. I love the sleek, simple design, but more than that, I love that the straw opens to clean. Absolutely brilliant move, Munchkin. At $7.50 a pop, I’ll be adding some more to my cart.

Size: 10 oz | Leakage: None so far | Cleaning: Difficult (hand-wash only) | Value: 3/5
As much as I wanted to love this one because it is so darn cute, I just am not sure metal and toddlers mix. While both my 2-year-old and I love the beautiful, simple design and the fun button to make the straw appear, the metal has done damage to our floor and could very well injure his baby brother. It’s so cute and a great color, but will need to make a reappearance in a few years once he can handle it fully. I do look forward to that day, as the cup promises to keep drinks cool without any sweat for 10 hours!

Size: 14 oz |Leakage: None with valve in | Cleaning: Moderately difficult | Value: 4/5
I’m a big fan of Waterdrop (especially their microdrinks), so naturally, I was geeked to see they had a kids’ water bottle. The designs are positively adorable; maybe our favorite yet. I will say that our son had a hard time drinking out of the leak-proof valve, as did I when I tried. We removed it, which does cause some potential leakage, but the flow rate suited him a lot better. I know I ragged on metal bottles earlier, but this one is different. It is lightweight and likely wouldn’t damage our home or his baby brother if dropped. I’m such a dishwasher fanatic, and unfortunately, this one isn’t dishwasher-safe. My son likes this cup enough though that I’ll have to suck it up and hand-wash it – it’s that much of a fave.

There’s truly no one who can test things (including parents) better than a toddler. So don’t take it from me, take it from my toddler: these are the best sippy cups around. Happy shopping and happy sipping!
TL;DR: Final Thoughts
There’s no such thing as a perfect toddler cup, but there are a few that make life significantly easier. After weeks of testing, these are the ones that held up to spills, throws, and everyday chaos. If you’re looking to upgrade your rotation, start with Owala, Munchkin, or b.box and you really can’t go wrong.
Toddler Cup FAQs
What type of cup is best for toddlers?
The best toddler cup depends on your child’s age and development. Straw cups are great for oral development, spout cups can ease the transition from bottles, and open-top cups help practice independent drinking.
What’s the healthiest cup for toddlers?
Cups made of BPA-free plastic, silicone, or stainless steel are safe and widely recommended. Avoid cups with hard-to-clean valves that can trap bacteria.
When should my toddler stop using a sippy cup?
Most pediatricians recommend transitioning away from traditional sippy cups between 18–24 months, encouraging straw or open-top cups for better oral development.
Are straw cups better than sippy cups?
Speech and feeding experts recommend straw cups over sippy cups since they strengthen oral muscles and help with swallowing development!
Are stainless steel cups safe for toddlers?
Yes, but they can be heavier and may cause damage if dropped, making them better for older toddlers.
How many toddler cups do you need?
Most parents find 2 to 4 cups in rotation is ideal to avoid constant washing.
Why You Should Trust Us
At The Quality Edit, we know parents don’t have the time (or money) to waste on products that don’t deliver which is why we test every product ourselves. These cups were tried over several weeks by our editor, Dana Abraham, and her toddler in real-life scenarios like mealtime, car rides, gymnastics practice, and playdates. This parent-toddler duo evaluated across key parent priorities like leak-proof design, cleaning ease, durability, and value.
