Lola + the Boys Makes Whimsical Clothing Straight From Your Kids' Imagination

There’s nothing more fulfilling as the mom of a toddler than seeing my child’s imagination shine. At least once a week, my daughter Selina draws a masterpiece, looks at me, and asks something like, “Do you think we can find a dress or a shirt that looks like this? And is also covered in sequins? With rainbows, but that’s also fuzzy?” 

It is then my job to scour the internet for something remotely similar to what she’s imagined. Even as a fashion editor, finding whimsical clothes for my little one was much harder than I thought it would be. And then I found Lola + The Boys.

​Lola + The Boys is one of very few brands that creates clothing that genuinely looks like it was imagined by a kid. Founded by Irina Ovrutsky, a former model who was frustrated by the lack of playful children's clothing options, the European-influenced, Chicago-based brand features bold colors, fun patchwork, sequins, and doodles galore – all inspired by her children, Lola, Shia, and Julian. 

With the school year rapidly approaching (eek, sorry, I know) it is the brand to know about – for imaginative littles, Hello Kitty, Barbie and Hot Wheels enthusiasts, and their moms, too. Here’s why my daughter and I can’t get enough. 

Kids Deserve Good Quality, Too

Of course when I was browsing online, I was impressed by these designs. The Lola + The Boys catalog is absolutely stocked for boys and girls: dresses, fun t-shirts, matching sets, swimsuits, sneakers, jackets, sweaters, puffers, and cute accessories like sunglasses, bags, purses, and more. 

On top of that, the brand has teamed up with so many of your kids’ favorite IP – Barbie, My Little Pony, Hot Wheels, Hello Kitty – on exclusive collections you won’t find elsewhere. While I loved the designs, I was curious to see if their quality matched their creativity. (Spoiler alert: they do!)

I have received many mailers as an editor, and Lola’s silver iridescent box is one of the most exciting packages I’ve received. While packaging may seem like a trivial detail, the details really do matter. It’s clear that Lola considers kids in every part of the shopping experience. My daughter was as impressed as I was and actually kept the silver box as a little bed for her stuffies because she loves the way it makes rainbows in the light. 

What’s more: the quality of the clothes inside is just as considered. I was shocked by how well-made every piece was – even the intricate ones covered in sequins. We have had many meltdowns over shedding sequins in the past, but these are stitched to stay in place. The clothes are not only designed to look good; they’re made with both playtime and washability in mind, too.

A Few Favorites

​My daughter got a rainbow sequin bathing suit which she has worn to swim pretty much every day since receiving it. We also got an adorable matching fuzzy set with crochet flowers that feels like something she would actually draw. Since she’s also in her wanting-to-wear-a-party-dress-for-every-occassion phase, we got a pink sequin dress covered with palm trees, seashells, and seahorses that is simply darling.
