Summer is officially upon us, which has meant a month of nonstop SPF launches. For a beauty editor, that means weeks of testing various SPF products, which can wreak havoc on your skin. Combine that with a very fun (and very sweaty) night during the opening week of the new Atlantic Ave Bathhouse location, and my skin was in need of a new summer routine. Enter, Anastasia. I’d been wanting to check out Anastasia Skin Care Studio since moving to New York, so I was thrilled for a reason to drop by their gorgeous UES studio to hear Anastasia’s summer skincare secrets. I settled in for the best facial of my life (truly) and was all ears for Anastasia’s expert take.
Anastasia has a very seasonal approach to skincare. First, she advised holding off on any chemical peels or other harsh treatments if you’re spending time in the sun (it may be good to avoid starting actives like retinol if you’re going to be out in the sun). Then she told me that while most of her clients diligently apply SPF in the summer, they often skimp on one of the most important steps in maintaining healthy skin during hotter weather: cleansing. As we layer heavy SPF, sweat more, and expose our skin to harsh summer elements, double cleansing becomes doubly important for many skin types. Case in point: my post-SPF-testing-binge congestion. (Which, after taking Anastasia’s advice and incorporating gentle enzymes into my cleansing routine, has completely disappeared.)
With so many skincare brands introducing new SPF products for summer (including my favorite SPF launch of the year, revealed below!), it would be a savvy move if brands bundled double cleansing products alongside their classic summer SPF launches. A pool day skin survival kit, if you will! With whispers of Bathhouse Atlantic Ave opening a rooftop pool this summer, I’ll be needing it.
And now, for the best launches of the week – including my favorite SPF of the year:
