If you’ve followed my byline at all over the last year, you’ll know I’m a bona fide The RealReal aficionado. Sure, their measurements might not always be accurate and their mannequins may occasionally be bizarrely styled, but The RealReal is still the most efficiently organized & comprehensive way to shop luxury secondhand online. The RealReal just released their 2026 Resale Report, a fascinating peek behind the curtain on how ultra-specific shoppers use The RealReal. The report is powered by a pretty incredible data set: “15 years of proprietary data across more than 50 million items sold and a community of 44 million members.” Here are a few of my favorite takeaways:
- Demand for vintage is sky high. The RealReal defines vintage as “pieces that are 15+ years old; significant to fashion history; culturally relevant; and stylistically relevant.” According to the report, “Decade-specific saved searches rose 135% Y/Y. Searches for 2000s fashion jumped 93%.” Overall demand for vintage on the site rose 432% since 2020.
- Shoppers are getting specific. Fashion lovers are increasingly searching for specific designers or eras, rather than blanket searches by brand or category. For example, searches surged a shocking 650% for "Phoebe Philo Celine.”
- Chanel is chic again. We didn’t need The RealReal to tell us that Matthieu Blazy’s Chanel takeover has been a runaway success, but now we have some more data to prove it: searches for Chanel creative director Matthieu Blazy rose by 10,967%.
- The algorithm is no match for local trends. The RealReal spotted some interesting location-specific shopping trends, like Minneapolis shoppers’ love for Thom Browne, and Dallas’s obsession with David Yurman jewelry. I find it heartening that despite the ubiquity of a handful of creators and brands across all of our feeds, our local tastes haven’t been totally flattened yet.
If you feel like combing over the (fascinating) full report, you can read it here. In the meantime, here are the best product launches this week:
