Our Sporty Era: Knicks-Inspired Fashion, FIFA Fever, and More

We’re getting uncharacteristically sporty on Launch Digest this week, but how could we not – Knicks fever is sweeping the nation, with the World Cup close on its heels. As a non-sports-watcher, the communal response to iconic sports moments is always the most interesting aspect to me: how do sports reflect where we’re at in the culture at large, and how are individuals and brands responding?

The biggest theme across the internet this summer is the return of grassroots community building. Branded attempts at breaking into the Substack ecosystem have fallen flat, while community-based local journalism is having a moment. Corporate initiatives to feel more “local” and approachable have stumbled on the finish line. Customers are getting wise to faux-folksy posturing.

The exuberant Knicks moment currently surging in NYC and online is refreshingly free of brand-driven content. Sure, there are many corporate tie-ins and campaigns. But while the coolest way to watch the NBA finals a couple years ago might have been at a branded party, the hottest watch parties in NY are literally happening in the streets. It’s not a matter of if, but when – brands will inevitably attempt to replicate the casual, communal atmosphere of these parties in the future. I’m curious to see whether fans bite.

While I attempt to learn the rules of basketball before Game 5, here are the best product launches this week:

First Up: Nuuly Embraces FIFA Fever

Credit: Nuuly

Nuuly launched their Summer of Soccer collection, bringing together an exclusive assortment of vintage jerseys, reworked styles, sporty staples, and team-inspired looks. Rooted in circular fashion, the collection includes one-of-a-kind vintage and Re_Nuuly upcycled pieces—including styles sourced from independent Depop seller Zain the Goat. The extremely cute collection is available to rent for Nuuly members.

Trending: Knicks Blue

Credit: LDMA

Perfect timing: activewear label LDMA just launched Laguna Blue, a vibrant new blue colorway that just so happens to be perfectly timed for the Knicks’ big moment. For fans looking to channel the city's signature blue without buying a jersey, the collection offers a wearable alternative to traditional game day gear.

For a more Euro take on the trend: Scotch & Soda released a very cool collaboration with Dutch institution Royal Delft. Delft has been operating since the 17th century (!!), and their iconic blue-and-white homewares have been trending especially high the last couple years. The Scotch & Soda capsule collection reimagines the classic handpainted Delft Blue style through a wearable, contemporary lens.

Trending: Summer Totes

Credit: ALOHAS, Parker Thatch

Barcelona-based brand ALOHAS have introduced their first ever bag collection, Hilma. The new handbag features a distinctive wave-like silhouette, playful transparent front pocket, and customizable metallic side rings. Produced in Spain, the collection includes three midi styles and five mini styles.

Functional luxury brand Parker Thatch and NYC’s beloved dinner party “shoppy shop” Big Night launched a capsule collection this week. The limited edition collab includes three primary colorways of "The Everywhere Bag," designed for summer entertaining & beach days.

Before You Go…

Credit: D.S. & Durga, Casalina x Ossa, Quince
  •  D.S. & Durga launched Rose Pacific, a limited-edition, West Coast inspired reimagining of one of my favorite scents, Rose Atlantic. Where Rose Atlantic evokes salt spray and summers in New England, Rose Pacific leans into sun-soaked apricot, Persian lime, and California poppies.
  • The auditory experts at Technics introduced a new moonlight lilac colorway of their AZ100 Wireless Earbuds – a great audiophile-friendly alternative to the ubiquitous AirPods.
  • Resortwear brand Casalina and New York jewelry label Ossa New York have teamed up on a limited-edition, co-designed phone wristlet. The chain features mother of pearl teardrop shells strung together with genuine freshwater pearls and gold-polished metal hardware.
  • Quince launched a beautiful new Navy colorway of their Ceramic Nonstick 7-Piece Cookware Set. The line’s signature ceramic nonstick coating is PTFE-, PFOA, lead, and cadmium-free, handles oven temps up to 500°F, and works on every cooking surface, including induction.
  • Lastly, a PSA for New Yorkers with discerning tastebuds: Oishii, the company behind the world’s largest indoor vertical strawberry smart farm, is bringing its most exclusive berry experience to Father’s Day with the launch of its Connoisseur Grade Omakase Berry. Available only in select NYC Metro zip codes, the extremely limited release includes six XL Omakase Berries priced at $50 per tray and will be sold through two first-come, first-served online drops ahead of Father’s Day weekend.
