In partnership with The Farmer’s Dog.
I want my dog Dolly to live forever. I can’t imagine a life without her – and for now, I won’t. But, the fact of the matter is: she’s getting older, so I’m all in on optimizing her healthspan (aka the number of years she lives in good health).
I’ve spent the past few months researching and trying a litany of healthy aging products for pups to put together this healthy aging toolkit. Of course, every dog is different, but these are the investments I’ve actually found make a huge difference for us.

1. The Farmer’s Dog Fresh Dog Food
Nutrition, nutrition, nutrition. Just as your doctor encourages you to prioritize what you eat for a healthy body, a dog’s food can make a huge difference in their health. The Farmer’s Dog is the only fresh food that’s clinically shown to support healthy aging. In fact, the brand’s founders worked with veterinary nutrition experts to formulate human-grade dog food made with real, fresh ingredients and portion each plan to your dog’s individual needs. I’ve already noticed better digestion and a shinier coat since making the switch. It’s well worth the investment – my #1 recommendation, hands down.

2. An Orthopedic Dog Bed
My dog has always been a skilled napper, and as she gets older, I’m paying more attention to where she sleeps. An orthopedic bed gives her joints more support than the cute but admittedly flimsy options I bought when she was a puppy. She seems more comfortable settling in in this Barker Beds dog bed – and I like its neutral, low-profile look.

3. A Smart Dog Collar
I track my steps and sleep, so I was curious to do the same for Dolly. Fi’s Smart Dog Collar tracks her daily activity and sleep, which has given me a much better sense of what “normal” actually looks like for her. For now, I’m establishing a baseline so I can notice if her habits start to change as she gets older. The GPS tracking is a bonus, too.

4. A Puzzle Toy
I want to keep both Dolly’s body and brain busy. Nina Ottosson’s puzzle toys make her work for treats by sliding, flipping, and sniffing her way to them. This mental enrichment feels like a game for her – and it’s another layer of peace of mind for me.

5. A Dog Toothbrush (& Toothpaste!)
I hadn’t spent much time thinking about Dolly’s teeth until her vet asked how often I brush them. As it turns out, dental health is an important part of her overall health, so I’ve since become much more diligent. I like Petsmile’s Professional Pet Toothbrush and Toothpaste because the toothpaste is accepted by the Veterinary Oral Health Council for helping control plaque – and, importantly, Dolly doesn’t mind it.
