Like many women, body image is something I’ve struggled with all of my life. Having played sports growing up and being close to 6 feet tall, I always felt bulky compared to my peers. In recent years, I’ve grown to be kinder to my body and the way I view myself. And most days, I like my muscular body! I have strong thighs to get me through any hike and an athletic back that looks fabulous in open-back dresses.

Aside from maturity, the evolution of brand inclusivity has played a huge part in enabling me to love my own body. These days, when looking for new brands, those that encourage women to feel sexy in their own skin are the companies I’m into. I recently came across SkinnyFit, which strives to do just that.

A Modern-Day Mission

SkinnyFit makes products to help women reach their personal goals around health and beauty. Rather than promote unhealthy standards, the brand focuses on helping women feel comfortable in their own skin. I was a little nervous that this wouldn’t be the case based on the brand’s name, but from what I’ve seen, SkinnyFit’s products and marketing efforts are consistent with this mission.

SkinnyFit primarily offers powders that can be made into drinks that have specific health benefits, such as detoxing or maintaining healthy skin. I chose to try one of SkinnyFit’s most famous products: Skinny Greens. Skinny Greens ($59.96 with subscription), is a superfood powder that is designed to help women in their weight loss journey and boost energy. The idea is to provide the benefits of juicing, without the mess, expense, and hassle that comes along with it.ᅠ

Easy Ordering and Delivery

Ordering from SkinnyFit was pretty easy, though the brand does offer a lot of products, so it could potentially be overwhelming if you don’t know what you’re looking for. Once I had the Greens in my cart, it was a quick check-out and fairly quick shipping process. Shipping cost $5.95 to get to me, which wasn’t awful, but I always am a sucker for free shipping.

The Greens packaging is a fun Barbie pink.

The Greens arrived at my door in a little bubble wrapped package – nothing overly cute, but it still was fun to see a Barbie pink bag on my doorstep. Inside, the Greens came in a plastic canister, which was sealed well. In addition to the Greens, my package included customer service information on what to do if I didn’t love the product. (SkinnyFit has a 90-day money-back guarantee if you aren’t satisfied, meaning I could try the Greens without the fear of “what if.”)

Surprisingly Delicious

I was pretty nervous that this was going to taste awful. I prefer my veggies cooked or raw, not necessarily in drink or juice form, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was very pleasantly surprised by the taste of the drink – it has the green apple flavor of a Jolly Rancher!

Making my daily SkinnyFit.

In terms of preparing the Greens powder, I had to play around a little bit with this to get it right. My first attempt was stirring the powder into water, admittedly, without measuring the amount of water. This resulted in a very powdery, chalky drink. However, my second attempt was much better; I used a shaker bottle for protein shakes to mix more thoroughly. My drink was evenly dissolved and tasted much better. I will say, the Greens do leave a bit of residue on the side of your bottle or glass, so consistent shaking or stirring once you’ve already made the drink helps the blending, too.

My husband and I quickly found this to be a new part of our daily routine, typically drinking it mid-afternoon to give us a bit of an energy boost and a fun taste, without over snacking or giving into cravings like we often have a tendency to do. The Greens also make a great smoothie if you just add a frozen banana and water to make it even more filling.

Look Good, Feel Good

Admittedly, I’m in a season right now where I’m not going to the gym as much as I’d like to be, so the thought of being able to do something easy for my health was appealing to me. By no means are the Greens an alternative to exercise and a healthy lifestyle; they are meant to supplement. Even in this time of lower daily movement, this was a nice supplement to intentionally focus on my health.

SkinnyFit boasts benefits of healthy weight, gut health support, increased energy levels, increased clarity, decreased bloating, and clearer skin when used consistently with exercise. I do feel less bloated during the day and the drink leaves me a bit more full than I expected it to, considering it feels a lot like juice in its consistency. Other than that, I can’t say I’ve really noticed a huge difference in the other benefits the brand claims. To be fair, I have not yet used it for 90 days, which the product recommends for best results.

Enjoying the Greens outside is the best way to enjoy it.

I’m also a big fan of the Skinny Greens ingredients. Many of them, such as turmeric root extract, green tea leaf extract, a probiotic blend, rhodiola root powder, organic wheat grass powder, matcha leaves, ashwagandha root powder, spirulina, chlorella, and apple cider vinegar, among others, have great natural properties that have been proven to have health benefits.

However, upon doing a bit more research, some of the ingredients used may not be at a high enough dose to actually have been proven to do what they say. For example, green tea extract has been statistically proven to have significant weight loss but this was at a daily dosage of 856.8 mg, which is much more than the entire “Slimming Green” blend in SkinnyFit’s Greens, which is only partially made up of green tea extract. This isn’t to say that the Greens don’t work – they just may not be clinically proven to work at the dosages in each serving. In my opinion, if they make you feel good and you like the taste, that’s great! There’s no doubt the Greens put good, even great, stuff into your body.

All things considered, I have enjoyed trying SkinnyFit Skinny Greens. I am struggling a little bit to justify the price tag, especially since I, a true data nerd, can’t find great data to back the quantities of some of the ingredients. The taste is excellent and I do feel good after drinking it, so perhaps I’ll continue to drink it daily and run my own little science experiment…
