We don't like
I work out of The Motoring Club, a part co-working clubhouse, part car club. So, as I’m sure you can imagine, I’m surrounded by gear and tech lovers on the daily. Since I started working here, I’ve seen ever-evolving double decker computer setups…mechanical keyboards, dual-screen laptops, cameras, headphones, computer mouses (mice?), the list goes on. When my latest gadget started drawing a lot of attention, I knew I was onto something.
It’s the reMarkable Paper Pro – the newly released follow-up to the beloved reMarkable 2 (which we originally reviewed here) – and I’ve lost count of how many times someone has stopped to ask, “Wait…is that the color one?” (This version lets you write, highlight, and sketch in color – not a full-color display like an iPad, but it’s an upgrade from the grayscale-only reMarkable 2.)
Compared to the reMarkable 2, which already had a cult following, the Paper Pro is sleeker, faster, and more premium – both in price and polish. But is it actually worth the upgrade?

Same Same…but Sleeker
If you’re familiar with the reMarkable 2, the Paper Pro will feel familiar – but subtly elevated. It’s ever-so-slightly bigger, heavier, and thicker, and best of all: it’s in color.
Like the reMarkable 2 before it, you can write and annotate on this tablet using nine writing tools like a ballpoint pen, fineliner, highlighter, or paintbrush – but unlike the reMarkable 2, you can also write and annotate using nine distinct colors (or you can blend them to create more).
Other features that set it apart? It has an adjustable reading light that allows for comfortable reading and writing day or night, 15% less glare, faster charging speed (90 mins vs 120), faster writing latency (12 milliseconds vs 21), and increased storage capacity (64 GB vs 9 GB). Everything about it is faster and sleeker: navigation, loading, latency, pen resolution.

New to the reMarkable World?
If you’re debating whether to snag a reMarkable Tablet in the first place, let me backtrack a bit to explain the product and its benefits – whether you opt for the reMarkable 2 or the Paper Pro.
Writing has the benefits of enhancing learning and memory, engaging our brains, and improving focus. But writing on paper can be messy and difficult to share: genius ideas on lost scraps of paper, a non-collaborative business plan, a journaling practice lost because another notebook to lug around was simply too heavy. reMarkable’s products combine the upsides of writing with the upsides of technology in their smart tablets that offer a paper-like experience – that’s also connected and limitless.
reMarkable is serious about its technology, and the result is an incredibly elegant experience. If you’re imagining writing on an iPad, throw that idea out the window and let’s start from scratch. These tablets have a tactile, high-friction surface to make them feel and sound like writing on paper, and their software is intentionally minimalistic. I’ve noticed the benefits of this while on calls: I’m able to engage in calls and take notes – without the distraction of social media apps or open browser tabs.

On top of that, reMarkable allows you to have different ‘notebooks’ for different purposes. Imagine having one for your full time job, one for journaling, another for planning your next trip, and still another for your side gig…all in one place and simple (and light!) to grab. All of your notes can easily be turned from handwritten scribbles into text and sent to your computer. Or, send PDFs from your computer straight to the tablet to annotate. Make a mistake? Simply flip your Marker Plus around and use the ‘eraser’ side exactly how you would with an old school pencil in hand.
Decision Time: Do You Really Need the Paper Pro?
So, is the Paper Pro worth it? If you’re new to the reMarkable ecosystem, this is hands-down the version to get. I’m a handwritten notes kind of girl, and I initially got the Paper Pro to combine my work notebook and my journal. As it turns out, I use it all the time, and it’s hard for me to remember how I used to operate without it. Whether brainstorming with a friend on a new project, working on concepts for a bachelorette weekend, or keeping track of my work ideas and to-dos, I’m able to keep everything organized and focused in one place. And, it’s really light to tote around.
If you’re already using the reMarkable 2 daily and love it, the Paper Pro probably isn’t a must – but if you crave color annotation, quicker performance, and a more premium build, the upgrade is well worth it.
A Practice in Human-Centric Technology
In a world where most tech is designed to hijack our attention, reMarkable stands out by doing the opposite: helping us focus. While many devices are engineered to be addictive, overflowing with notifications and endless scrolls, the Paper Pro is refreshingly quiet – in both form and function. Every detail, from its friction-rich screen to its intentionally minimal interface, reflects a human-centric philosophy: make life easier, not noisier. It’s a tool that respects your time, attention, and ideas – and it’s a total breath of fresh air.
