As someone who suffers from endometriosis, herbal and natural medicinal brands are something I get super excited about, especially when they treat painful menstrual symptoms. I’m the type of person who likes to balance Western and Eastern medicines, as I believe both are necessary for my body's healing process. I tend to lean more towards holistic medicine such as Ayurveda or Chinese Herbal Medicine when I'm at a crossroads with my health, mostly because I want to focus on the root causes of my issues, rather than using a Band-Aid approach to the symptoms. Most importantly, when turning to Eastern medicine, I make sure I’m learning from and giving back to the community from which these practices originate, which is why NOOCI checks all the boxes when it comes to my health.

Pronounced "noo-chee", which means "women energy" in Chinese, this herbal, modern but Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) brand is on a mission to make "living your best health" accessible to all women. By combining time-honored ingredients, science-backed research, and the latest herbal extraction technology, NOOCI is modernizing TCM for women to incorporate into their daily lives. These carefully made herbal formulas work to balance and restore your body to its best health.

We like

  • Ethically sourced ingredients backed by thousands of years of tradition
  • Great flavors that taste nothing like "medicine"
  • Ability to stack / mix and match products for even more health benefit

We don't like

  • Suggested dosage of two capsules per day means product goes quickly
  • Can take up to 6-8 weeks to see effects

AN EAST-MEETS-WEST PHILOSOPHY

Before diving into NOOCI’s brand philosophy, it's probably best to start off with an explanation as to what TCM really is. Known as the original preventative medicine, this foundational approach to health has been used in China for over 3,000 years. Rooted in Taoism and Confucianism, ancient Chinese scholars determined that mind-body balance was key for optimal wellness, disease prevention, and a better quality of life. This practice restores balance through non-invasive techniques, like herbal medicine, movement or the use of acupuncture.

It’s important to recognize that most non-TCM herbs are used individually to target specific conditions, like peppermint for nausea and lavender for stress relief, without taking into account broader holistic factors (hence my urge to turn to Eastern practices). By contrast, TCM looks into each herb's composition of properties and how they would interact with different body constitutions, which is what makes it both holistic and special.

NOOCI's Scientific Advisor and Integrative Medicine/Acupuncture specialist Jillian Capodice, explains that “TCM is such a powerful treatment method because it amplifies and activates your own body's power to heal itself. It’s a whole medical system that contains many practices and procedures to treat a variety of conditions and maintain optimal health long term." TCM rarely uses single herbs, instead using herbs in combination in order to achieve synergistic effects and establish balance in the body.

Similar to my own perspective on health, NOOCI's founder Stephanie Joyce Tan was yearning for a holistic, natural approach to her own long-term wellness, but realized in her research that TCM practices seemed convoluted even for those who grew up familiar with it. As a result, this ancient wisdom remains largely unappreciated in most parts of the world. Thus, the brand was born out of necessity, out of Tan’s desire to close this knowledge gap and to make TCM accessible for all women interested in a sustainable and healthy lifestyle.

Dr. Robin Miller supports this brand by stating that “NOOCI products are not only effective, clean and thoughtfully designed, but the origins of the products are clearly stated. That level of transparency is incredibly important to me as a physician when I recommend products to my patients.” Now an established brand that embraces an East-meets-West, less-is-more mentality, NOOCI  takes the best from both worlds. It works closely with TCM practitioners, integrative medical doctors, and scientists to derive their unique, for-women-by-women formulas.

ANCIENT WISDOM, MODERN SCIENCE

NOOCI’s products are clean (vegan and free from cruelty, chemicals, preservatives, fillers, and artificial flavorings), potent (using advanced extraction and concentration methods to deliver maximum health benefits), responsible (sourcing from trusted suppliers who have been carefully vetted to meet their ethical and sustainability standards) but most of all, delicious.

I was excited to receive the NOOCI bundle, which included all three of their flagship products. The one I’d been most eager to try out was the Noo Moon: menstrual support ($45), with a special formula that combines ginseng, ginger, and cinnamon to help ease PMS symptoms. I don’t always have the easiest time taking pills, even those in capsule form, because of the nasty aftertaste I’m left with. But luckily, after taking NOO MOON, all I tasted was cinnamon! This herbal supplement has been great for my cramps, mood and menstrual cycles. It also reduces bloating, which is perfect for my endo belly.

Next, I was gifted the one and only Noo Air: nasal relief ($45). This blend was created by doctors as a non-drowsy, modern TCM mix of reishi mushroom, mint, and perilla leaves to clear nasal blockage, promote healthy airflow, and boost body immunity. This is never something I thought I would’ve needed in my life, but now that I have it, I never want to let it go. This powerful herbal supplement eases congestion, leaving me feeling ready for the day right when I wake up, and it’s especially great to be take around allergy season as well. Once again, no gross aftertaste: only mint!

And last but not least, the ReNoo: women’s longevity ($45) is their signature TCM blend, including eleven plant-based ingredients like luding fermented coix seed and soybean. The combination boosts energy levels, stimulates your metabolism and combats bloating all at once. This nourishing, green-tea-tasting powder mixes easily into water, daily brew or any smoothie to help optimize your overall health. I’ve actually learned that I like taking this mixture mostfirst thing in the morning and again in the evening, a couple hours after dinner. It lowers your sugar cravings, so when dessert pangs hit, I turn to my beautifully colored RENOO instead and all is well. I can tell that it also has been aiding my digestion, meaning I feel less groggy and more motivated to start my day when I wake up.

The cherry on top is that these products aren’t just great on their own, they’re even better together. Bundling ReNoo and Noo Air helps strengthen overall absorption and potency, magnifying the effects that lead to full-body wellness. Meanwhile ReNoo and Noo Moon compliment each other differently, boosting immunity, improving the body’s response to common allergens, and supporting overall energy level. In the little time I’ve been using NOOCI’s products, it’s clear to me that the ingredients are carefully and thoughtfully chosen to provide you with a holistic experience that actually works.

There’s no other way to say it: they understood the assignment.
