If April showers bring May flowers…we’ve got a ways to go until summer, but with constant rain in California, warmer weather is on my mind. After picking out a few new sundresses for myself, I’m now focused on refreshing my girls’ wardrobe for the seasons ahead. The first brand that came to mind was Mon Coeur, the earth-loving company that takes pride in making soft and cozy clothing that’s good for the planet – and fun for kids too.

We sat down with founder Louise Ulukaya to get the scoop on what makes Mon Coeur so great. ICYMI, here’s the lowdown. For the sustainability-first parents, you’ll be happy to discover that all of Mon Coeur’s products are produced and sourced to limit emissions, plus each piece of clothing highlights earth-friendly innovation in recycling and upcycling like recycled polyester from plastic bottles, buttons made from 93% recycled paper and thermosetting fillers, and zippers sourced from 91% recycled yarns and bottles. Umm, wow. And for the parent who just wants to dress their kid in cute clothes, you’ll love the soft pastel colors, sweet patterns (hello, gingham and cherry), and variety of mix & match options.

Here are our top four picks from their Spring/Summer 2023 line…plus a few extras ;).

The Linen Dress

This Gingham Linen Dress (baby version here, from $69) was the first thing I saw and naturally, I had to get one for each of my girls. The fabric is luxurious, lightweight, and flowy – Mon Coeur’s first foray into linen! According to the brand, linen is one of the most sustainable fabrics because flax isn’t made with synthetic additions, pesticides, or chemicals. P.S. for a more “play friendly” option, check out the equally adorable Linen Romper ($67).

The Gingham Swimsuit

You can never have enough gingham, and I had to stock up on swimwear, so these checkered suits ($68) are going to be the star of the show at summer BBQs and birthday parties at the pool. Made with recycled fishnets from the ocean (what! how?!), Mon Coeur’s swimsuits are all SPF+ 50 and chlorine resistant so you know your little is protected from the sun. The ruffle detailing and crossed back straps make it both fun and functional – aka every parent’s dream. If a two-piece is more your jam, the Dots Girl Bikini ($68) would make a great option. And for those who want a bit of extra coverage, the MC Kid Rashguard ($60) and MC Baby Rashguard ($58) offer the ultimate protection for long days in the sun.

The Short

Choose your own adventure when it comes to Mon Coeur’s shorts – there’s no going wrong with MC Girl Cropped Short ($49) or the slightly longer Patches Boy Short ($50). Both are made with a soft molleton and a relaxed fit that’s easy for kids to take on and off by themselves. Side pockets and adjustable drawstrings round out these perfect shorts. We love that they’re made from upcycled cotton, using watercolor print with non-toxic ink. And, they’re fully machine washable. Nothing more to say here!

The Summer Sweatshirt

First come shorts, then come sweatshirts. I’m not sure if it’s just me, but my kids live in sweatshirts pretty much year round. In the winter, they’re the perfect safeguard against getting cold (they refuse to wear jackets, obviously) and in the summer, they’re great for throwing in the beach bag to have on hand when the sun goes down. This year, they’ll be donning this pastel Striped Summer Sweatshirt ($70) which is the ideal take-it-with-you-everywhere piece for brisk mornings or cooler nights. I’m also loving the 100% Earth-Loving Kid Summer Sweatshirt ($70), which would pair well with the aforementioned shorts, making for a summer-friendly sweatsuit. Count us in.

There you have it – the perfect summer capsule wardrobe. Here’s to warmer days ahead…
