I cherish time with my kids. I really do. But if I’m being honest, the ten minutes before bed — when they’re cycling through every excuse in the book to avoid brushing their teeth — is the one moment of the day I’d gladly fast forward through.
I’m too tired. The toothpaste is too spicy (for the record, it’s the same unicorn toothpaste we’ve used for years). I think I already did it. Newsflash: they did not. It’s like toothbrushing Groundhog Day.
So when other parents recommended switching to an electric toothbrush to break the cycle, I didn’t hesitate. My research led me to Burst Oral Care’s Kids Sonic Toothbrush, which is specifically designed by dentists and hygienists for kids ages 2 and up. It has a built-in 2-minute timer, two brushing modes, and is clinically proven to remove plaque, making it 26x more effective than a manual brush.*
While I’m all for clinical credibility, what actually sold me was watching my kids’ excuses shrink considerably. Because they are my children, the battle didn’t disappear entirely, but getting them to brush their teeth feels a lot more manageable these days.

Why I Stopped Fudging the Truth at the Dentist
There’s a specific moment at every dental checkup where the dentist asks whether my kids have been flossing and brushing for the full two minutes, twice a day. And before my kids jump in and spill the beans, there’s a specific face I make when I answer: mostly? I typically don’t make eye contact, which isn’t doing me any favors.
I’m sure the dental pros who cycle through dozens of families weekly realize that “mostly” is just a nice way of saying “not really.” The reality is that my kids insisted on brushing themselves, which lasted approximately 20 seconds, covered roughly three teeth, and ended with a declaration that they were done. I’d do a halfhearted follow-up pass and tell myself it was fine — they’re just baby teeth, right?
The Burst Kids Sonic Toothbrush is what finally stopped me from doing a follow-up pass. Burst’s sonic technology removes plaque 26x more effectively than a manual brush,* so when my kids grab it and go to town, I no longer have to wrestle away the SpongeBob toothbrush and try to finish the job.
The extra-soft tapered bristles are gentle for ages 2 and up, including those with sensitive gums. Plus, I can’t really argue with a community of 41,000+ dental professionals who helped design and refine it.

Goodbye, Excuses
Switching to Burst Kids Sonic Toothbrush has certainly given my kids more autonomy (and me less of a worry) during the pre-bedtime hustle. But what I didn’t actually expect is my kids not putting up a fight when it was time to brush their teeth.
At first I thought it was some magical sorcery that tends to happen with any new toy or product they get their hands on. Having never used an electronic toothbrush before, they couldn’t stop giggling, saying that the bristles tickled their mouths.
But, after a couple of days they quickly adapted, as kids do. They fully embraced toothbrushing with minimal excuses. While a few things stood out to me, the design of the toothbrush is what really won us all over. For starters, the toothbrush isn’t cumbersome for them to use. The silicone-wrapped handle is sized for small hands, which means my kids can actually hold and maneuver it themselves without me helicopter parenting.
And, since my kids still don’t really have any concept of time whatsoever (2 minutes feels like 2 hours to them), we all appreciate that the toothbrush has a 2-minute timer that features 30-second pauses to remind them to change quadrants. It’s eliminated a lot of the negotiating that used to dominate every toothbrushing session.

Making Healthy Habits (and Bedtime) Easier
Our most recent dental visit was a walk in the park (well, as easy as a dentist visit with kids can actually be). I didn’t have to fudge the truth and my kids both came away with glowing reports and no cavities. Phew.
I clearly can’t take all the credit. The Burst Kids Sonic Toothbrush meaningfully changed our evening routine and helped improve my kids’ dental hygiene.
If your pre-bedtime ritual needs a revamp, switching to this Kids Sonic Toothbrush is worth it — for their teeth and for whatever patience you have left at 8 pm.
