We consider ourselves red LED light therapy experts at The Quality Edit. Red light face mask? We’ve got one on our bedside table, and one in our carry-on. At-home infrared saunas? We’ve interviewed the founders of the best sauna blanket on the market. Needless to say, it takes a lot to intrigue and impress us in this department. But when we heard rumblings about the new LED light therapy sex toy from luxury Swedish sex toy makers LELO, we knew we had to test it.
We had approximately one million questions about the LELO MONA Spectra. First of all, would the toy live up to the extremely high standard of pleasure that LELO has already set? Second, would the LED light therapy features be easy to use consistently, or would they feel like an unnecessary add-on? Third, how would we feel after consistent usage? And lastly, would the toy end up feeling worth the price tag?
Our testing standards are always high, but we decided to go above and beyond for our LELO MONA Spectra review, assigning an editor to test it for a whole month before making any judgements. Needless to say, it didn’t take much convincing for one of our intrepid editors to go on a monthlong sexual wellness odyssey, LELO MONA Spectra in hand. And given her glowing dispatch (no pun intended), we’re now desperate to try out the toy for ourselves.
Read on for our editor’s weekly diary review of LELO’s new LELO MONA Spectra vibrator:
Week 1: Set Up & First Impressions

First things first: set up. After I opened my eagerly-awaited LELO MONA Spectra box, I charged the toy and used the LELO App to start playing around with the toy’s settings. Some sex toys require a set up that feels like an insanely intricate ritual on its own. But from my experience test-driving other LELO toys, I knew that LELO would make the set up experience as easy and intuitive as they come.
Once I had explored the toy’s intuitive controls, it was time to take it for a test drive. I used the lube provided by LELO to prep the toy, and then indulged in my first MONA Spectra session. As soon as I started using the toy, I knew it was going to quickly become one of my go-tos. Switching between the 8 vibration settings was completely smooth – there was no abrupt stepping up of power that you get with some other toys. I read later that this was thanks to LELO’s “Smoothrise” technology. The LED lights made the toy a little warm, but in a delicious, totally comfortable way – I don’t know if it was psychosomatic, but I found myself actually enjoying the sensations more because of it.
Week 2: Premium Performance

Ultimately, I knew I’d only keep reaching for the toy if it delivered spectacular orgasms. Lucky for me, the combo of the toy’s g-spot stimulating vibrations, silky smooth silicone texture, and its twisted sensorial ribs delivered the toe-curling goods in record time. Orgasming from internal penetration alone has always been tantalizingly out of reach for me, but the MONA Spectra unlocked spectacular, deep orgasms. After two weeks of testing, it was safe to say that the LELO MONA Spectra is one of the most powerful and efficient g-spot stimulating toys I’ve ever used.
Simply put, I couldn’t get enough. It was really fun to test out all the customizable vibration strengths and patterns. After about a week of usage, I had my routine down. While the toy is designed for internal stimulation, the twisted “sensorial rib” design was just as deliciously pleasurable when used for clitoral stimulation. At this point, I was telling all of my friends to invest in one of these toys.
Week 3: Potential Benefits

By the third week, I’d used the MONA Spectra solo and with a partner, internally and externally, and on all 16 intensity levels. I played with using the toy with and without the LED lights, and used the LELO App to experiment with green, blue, and near infrared light in addition to the classic red light. I even brought it into the shower to take advantage of the fact that it’s fully waterproof. In short, I was an aficionado, a devotee, an acolyte.
Once I’d been sold on the toy’s body-shaking, mind-blowing, orgasm-delivering capabilities, I started to do some research into the potential health benefits of the MONA Spectra’s red light LED features. Red light therapy is usually used externally on the skin to reduce everything from inflammation to acne to wrinkles. When used internally, like with the MONA Spectra, it could potentially help cells work more efficiently, impacting blood flow, reducing discomfort during penetration, and strengthening the pelvic floor. Potential results like those take time to observe, but even after 3 weeks of using the toy, I found myself feeling more relaxed and more connected to my body during partnered and solo sex.
Week 4: Long Term Results

Now, any red light therapy devotee knows that consistency is key: this isn’t a one and done technology, it’s something you weave into your daily routine. So my big question for the toy was: after a month of usage, would I still want to use it? I don’t know if it was the LED features or the wickedly pleasurable design of the entire toy, but the LELO MONA Spectra is the only g-spot stimulating toy I’ve ever reached for consistently. The folks at LELO have a potential explanation: the “MONA™ Spectra naturally generates a gentle thermal energy through its LED array. This benefit may help relax the pelvic muscles and increase blood flow, which in turn makes the overall experience more comfortable.”
Whatever the cause, the results were undeniable: the orgasms I had during my month of testing the LELO MONA Spectra were some of the most powerful and immersive of my life. They had a deep, relaxing quality that quickly made it a delicious and essential part of my daily wind down.
My Honest Take Away: Is The LELO MONA Spectra Worth Investing In?
When I started testing the toy, I was nervous that the LED light components would make sex feel like a medical exercise, rather than a pleasure ritual. But the longer I used the LELO MONA Spectra, the more I thought about sex as a self-care ritual, like using my LED face mask or going to an infrared sauna. It became an indulgent, pleasurable, self-affirming way to take time out of every day to check in with my body. As my friends can attest, I wholeheartedly recommend the LELO MONA Spectra. Its luxurious materials, intuitive design, and innovative features make it well worth the price tag. Believe me, you’ll be reaching for it every day.
