It’s no secret that we at TQE adore Haus, the low-ABV spirits brand that ships from Sonoma County straight to your door. Their apéritifs, made with real fruits, herbs, and botanicals, have been one of our favorite ways to enjoy an elevated cocktail hour at home -- and still wake up feeling fresh the next day. So, when we got a special sneak preview of their latest flavor launch, Grapefruit Jalapeño, we couldn’t wait to taste and tell.

What It Is:

Haus’s Grapefruit Jalapeño is the perfect Spring launch. Inspired by ingredients you might find in a modern mezcal or tequila cocktail, Grapefruit Jalapeño is composed of fresh grapefruit, lemon peel, Makrut lime leaf, and a blend of chilies including (of course) fresh jalapeños. You can find the full ingredients and nutrition information here, along with details about how and why the ingredients were sourced -- Haus’s commitment to transparency is one of the many things we love about the brand. A bottle is 750mL and 18% ABV, and ships straight to your door for $35.

How It Tastes:

As promised by its ingredients, Grapefruit Jalapeño is a harmonious balance of citrus and spice. It tastes exactly how I want to be feeling as the first signs of Spring emerge: fun, flirty, and fresh. It’s a bit heavier on the fresh citrus than the spice, which I appreciate -- and I find that I can play up each element of the flavor profile depending on what I mix it with. I’ve tried it with sparkling water over ice, on its own with a squeeze of fresh lime on the rocks, and have also made a pretty amazing “Haus Paloma,” if I do say so myself (see their site for some recipe inspiration).

Some perfect pairing ideas, c/o @drink.haus

Like Haus’s other flavors, Grapefruit Jalapeño is refreshing and clean; you won’t find any notes of artificiality or saccharine flavor profiles that are more often found in traditional apéritifs. And I really can’t wait to bring this new flavor into the equation with some friends outdoors -- and attempt a more aesthetically advanced salt-rimmed cocktail or two (a drink category this flavor is destined for).

Purchasing Power:

The most important question: would I buy this flavor again? Absolutely (until it sells out, that is)! Simply put, Haus’s new Grapefruit Jalapeño flavor delivers on its promises. Not only is it the perfect flavor for the Spring season, but it’s also something I can feel good about drinking -- literally. I’m planning to make Grapefruit Jalapeño a staple in my bar cart for the Spring season, and might even stock up so that I can be sipping on Haus Palomas all through the summer.

Try Haus’s newly-launched flavor, Grapefruit Jalapeño, for yourself today!
