Fruity lip glosses, juicy pink blushes and body mists that bring you back to a tropical vacation: whatever it may be–guava is in. This summer all of your favorite brands are looking to the islands for inspiration, with EADEM, Ceremonia, Summer Fridays and more all introducing products scented and enhanced with guava. The fruit is showing up so much in the beauty industry that the term “Guava Girl Summer” was coined.

I couldn't quite put my finger on why this particular fruit was suddenly becoming so popular. Did it have superfood properties I didn’t know about, or was it just the tropical nostalgia it evoked that led to its rise in popularity? After a bit of research and some enlightening conversations with brands, I realized the answer is both.

Guava Colored Memories

I knew I had to speak with the team at EADEM to find answers. Founded by Alice Lin Glover and Marie Kouadio, EADEM is a skincare and makeup brand led by women of color whose core mission is to create products useful for everyone, especially those with melanated skin–a group that is historically left out of the beauty industry.

Both descendants of tropical climates, the founders grew a brand that fully represents the feelings that biting into a fresh guava might evoke–a warm, earthy, vibrant feeling celebrating the cultures indigenous to tropical climates.

Earlier this year, one of their most viral products, the Le ChouChou Lip Softening Balm, got a tropical makeover with the introduction of EADEM’s Guava Fresca shade. When asked what inspired the shade, the co-founders both pulled from childhood experiences to explain its creation.

Co-founder Marie Kouadio recalls summers spending time in her grandmother's garden among the fruit trees ”discovering the bright pink flesh hidden beneath the guava's humble green skin.” She recalls moments of the Guava juice running down her fingers, sweet and alive–moments anchor her to something deeper than memory. “For children of immigrants, these experiences become the invisible threads that connect us to who we are,” Kouadia said.

For co-founder Alice Lin Glover, memories of Guava are centered around humid Taiwan nights, sharing secrets with cousins while the fruit's juice stained their chins. She remembers being fascinated by how each slice revealed its own shade of delicate pink, no two exactly the same–sort of like the faces EADEM caters to.

Both Kouadio and Lin Glover agree these aren't just nostalgic moments–they're the foundation of how they create at EADEM. When the beauty world started buzzing about guava this summer, the founders saw something entirely different: a chance to translate those profound childhood connections into something universal. Enter Le Chouchou Guava Fresca, a gentle blush, baby pink with coral undertones that enhances your natural beauty, just like those childhood discoveries revealed hidden sweetness beneath the surface.

Your New Favorite Superfruit

Other brands, like Ceremonia, a clean hair care brand rooted in Latinx heritage, are using guava not only to scent their products and signal their roots, but as an active ingredient to heal hair from the outside in. If you didn't already know, guava is a natural UV filter that contains powerful antioxidants, fighting off free radicals and preventing hair damage. Guava is also one of the richest sources of vitamin C, containing twice as much as oranges.

Ceremonia praises the superfruit powers of guava, creating an award-winning line of haircare surrounding the ingredient with everything from Protect & Repair Shampoo to a Rescue Spray, each promising softer, nourished hair with added protection from the sun.

BUXOM cosmetics is also leaning into the beauty benefits of guava with their Power-Full Lip Scrub. Jessica Theofiledes, Executive Director of BUXOM Cosmetics, shared the scoop on why the brand is loving the tropical fruit.

“Guava isn’t just a trending fruit in skincare, it’s the new go-to for glow,” said Theofiledes. “BUXOM's Sweet Guava Lip Scrub taps into that juicy moment with real sugar crystals to gently buff away dryness, while nourishing oils and guava extract leave lips soft, plump, and ready for gloss–it’s like a tropical reset button for your pout.”

All the brands have one thing in common: they believe that as an ingredient, scent or color guava is a powerful superfruit that caters to a need for vibrancy, sweetness and healing power in the beauty industry. Guava is more than a trend and will be here to help you glow for many summers to come. You can have a trendy, “Guava Girl Summer” yourself, but I'm sure most of the products you introduce into your tropical, summer routine will be here to stay.

Guava Girl Summer Essentials

EADEM

Le Chouchou Lip Softening Balm in Guava Fresca

EADEM’s Guava Fresca Le ChouChou Lip Balm is the first product that comes to mind when I think of “Guava Girl Summer” essentials. The gentle blush, baby pink balm is filled with healing ingredients like hibiscus enzymes, pyruvic acid and African mongongo butter that gently buff flaky lips while plumping and smoothing for a glossy finish. EADEM’s patented SpreadIt™ polymer technology keeps the product from sinking into fine lines, while the metal applicator (a feature I haven't seen on many lip products) smooths and cools. The semi-sheer finish enhances, but never masks melanated, dual-tone lips. The Le ChouChou (French for "favorite”) shades pay homage to street foods and the cultures that rely on them so heavily, like the sunny Mexican culture and its vibrant agua frescas.

I like to use Glow Recipe’s Guava Vitamin C Serum to keep my skin naturally bright and glowy all summer long. The formula uses five forms of vitamin C: guava seed oil, and tranexamic & ferulic acids to brighten dark spots & even skin tone. Unlike most popular vitamin C serums, Glow Recipe’s version delivers clinically-effective ingredients in a stable formula. Most vitamin C serums expire and change colors fairly quickly, but this silky non-sticky gel is quick absorbing and stays a beautiful pink hue for up to twelve months. It is the perfect step in your routine to brighten the radiance of all skin types, as this serum’s vitamin C encapsulation technology treats and prevents dark spots over time and brightens skin without any harsh irritation.

I had to force myself to put down my holy grail product, Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm in Pink Sugar, in order to try their newest flavor: Pink Guava. Although the shades are quite similar, the guava scent takes you on a completely different journey from my marshmellow-y vanilla fav. Pink Guava is a sheer bright pink color with a hint of sweet, fruity guava flavor that instantly conditions and softens dry lips with shea and murumuru butters. It is the perfect topper over your favorite lip liner, or au naturale on its own.

Not only is the pink guava tone Soar the perfect flushed cheek shade for “Guava Girl Summer”, it is also versatile enough to wear across the lids or swipe on your lips for a tropical pout. The buildable color looks great on multiple skin tones creating a sheer, natural glow on those with darker complexions.

Although I’m loving a glossy lip for the summer, there is something about an easy, balmy, matte product that screams post-beach makeup look. REFY’s Guava shade is a vibrant, fresh fuschia pink that works beautifully with their lightweight, blurring Lip Blush formula. Unlike your usual matte lip product, Lip Blush works to visibly smooth and reduce fine lines as coconut emollient helps keep the lips feeling moisturised and nourished. The unique formula creates a comfortable and non-sticky sensory experience when applied. Lip blush can be diffused with your finger for a natural finish or layered for a deeper colour.

If you know Sol De Janiero, you know they had to toss their hat in the ring when it came to a tropical fruit like guava. They have built a brand surrounding the sights and smells of the beaches of Rio De Janiero, so a juicy guava nectar & sunlit orchid perfume mist was a natural addition to their viral scent collection.

Each Sol De Janeiro scent comes with its own story, Cheirosa 48’s being the celebration of the liberating energy of 1948, when the bikini was first spotted in Brazil.

If you are in the beauty-know you may have come across CDMX-native cosmetics brand AORA, who is shaking up the industry by attempting to topple European beauty standards. Created against a vibrant Mexican canvas, AORA celebrates the richness of color for everyday wear. Packed with hydrating ingredients like vitamin E, hyaluronic acid, castor oil and squalane, the ACARÍCIAME Solid Lip Serum acts more like a skincare treatment than a cosmetic. Once applied, you cannot deny the color payoff, especially in shade Rosa.04, a vibrant, juicy pink. You might feel a little tingle as you wear ACARÍCIAME as a small dose of chili extract boosts circulation for a light, plumping effect on the lips.
