Meet The Mediterranean-Inspired Apéritif That We Can’t Get Enough Of

In partnership with Ghia. Editor’s Note: We only select and work with partners that meet our quality standards, so you can rest assured we only endorse products we believe in.

Maybe it’s the unpredictability of the world (wildly gestures around) or the non-stop hustle that comes with being a working parent, but lately I’ve been trying to make small lifestyle changes that make me feel more grounded. Like putting my phone away when I’m with my kids and saying yes to things that I know will make me feel good—not just now, but in the future. Turns out few things feel better than making a choice you’re genuinely proud of, especially when it doesn’t feel like a compromise or a chore.

This desire to be more intentional is just one of the reasons why Ghia has gained such a cult following since their launch in 2020 (and yes, you can now count me as part of Team Ghia). Inspired by Mediterranean aperitivo culture, their non-alcoholic apéritifs are free of added sugar, alcohol or any of the artificial stuff—you won’t find any artificial sweeteners like stevia or monk fruit here, either.

Ghia’s taste is bold, botanical and just the right amount of bitter thanks to gentian root, a root commonly used in aperitifs to give it that unmistakable bitterness like your favorite Campari Spritz. It’s the kind of drink that doesn’t just spare you the hangover the next day—it gives you bragging rights for having great taste and even better judgment.

Ghia’s Original Apéritif

Just Don’t Call It a Mocktail

Ghia is many things, but one thing that it’s not is a mocktail. Dreamed up by Melanie Masarin, Ghia is an apéritif inspired by Mediterranean aperitivo culture. Masarin grew up spending summers in the Mediterranean with her mother and grandmother and reveals that Appertivo is a way of life there. For those of us who can only dream of such a lifestyle, here’s the skinny: an aperitif is a beverage enjoyed before your main meal to stimulate the appetite and prepare the palate.

Masarin reveals the inspiration behind Ghia and says that “Ghia is a spirits-free apéritif adapted for modern times. It’s an invitation – to take a moment for yourself, to watch the sunset, to move from work into play and to take care of your loved ones.”

In other words, Ghia is all about intentionality, inclusion, and of course, flavor. It’s not here to alter your mood or mimic a buzz; it’s made to bring out the best version of you, just as you are. Whether you’re hosting your first dinner party or a busy mom like me who loves a Campari Spritz, but knows a 6am wakeup call by her two lovable gremlins is on the horizon, Ghia will seamlessly fit into your lifestyle. Pouring a glass with dinner felt entirely different than reaching for yet another flavored sparkling water or overly sweet NA spirit. It didn’t feel like a placeholder, but instead, an upgrade: bold, bright and hangover-free. And yes, if you’re wondering: it even pairs well with a side of butter noodles and dinosaur nuggets.

A Flavor and Product for Every Occasion

Ghia has a flavor for every taste bud and a product for every occasion. Whether you choose their original apéritif or their ready-to-drink canned Le Spritz, you can always expect pure ingredients sourced from a variety of botanicals like rosemary, lemon balm and elderflower. Ghia is never made with any of the nasties like stevia or artificial flavors. Here’s a rundown:

There’s no mistaking Ghia’s bold flavor, bold color and downright gorgeous bottle. It’s seriously so elevated that it’ll become the star of your bar cart. Their original non-alcoholic aperitif immediately transported me back to sipping seaside during my carefree, pre-kid vacations where the only thing I had to worry about was whether my next drink would come with a twist of orange or slice of lime.

Ghia’s original apéritif comes in two flavors: original and berry. The original being a classic that you’d grab for a pre-dinner drink, while berry is more fit for a tangy, bold nightcap after dinner out. Whichever flavor you choose, you’ll delight in how easy it is to make. Trust me: it’s even doable with one hand while cooking dinner or helping with homework (been there, done that). Make it simple and mix with bubbles (any sparkling water will do) or embellish your drink with creative garnishes like rosemary, edible flowers or a grapefruit slice.

One look in my recycling bin and it’s clear that I’ve become partial to Ghia’s single-serving cans of Le Spritz. Flavors include Ghia Soda, Ghia Ginger, Lime & Salt and Sumac & Chili (my personal fave). I love that each can is super convenient and ready to drink, making it easy to pack it in your picnic, enjoy on the beach or sip during yet another one of your kid’s tee ball games (guilty).

And, based on demand from their loyal customer base, Ghia’s newest offering is a “Build Your Own Le Spritz Pack” where you can customize your bundle. And, if hot and spicy isn't for you (like it is for me) you can easily pick just the flavors you want.

It’s Not Only Drinks: Meet Ghianduja

Ghia is expanding and recently branched out into snacks. Their Hazelnut spread immediately had me hooked and tossing that other popular brand right in the trash. Available in smooth and crunchy, Ghia’s version called Ghianduja (pronounced: ghee-yawn-doo-yah) is made with olive oil instead of palm oil and contains half the sugar of comparable brands. Admittedly, I like to nosh on a post-dinner treat while I do the dishes and this hazelnut spread has become my go-to thanks to its ingredients I can feel good about. Bonus: it’s dairy-free, gluten-free, non-GMO, plant-based and vegan.

It’s What’s Inside That Counts

While everything about Ghia from their branding to taste is elevated, it’s really what’s inside Ghia that counts. No matter the product, Ghia’s nutrition labels are full of familiar ingredients that you can actually pronounce (think: Yuzu juice, elderflower extract, chamomile tea—to name a few).

Not only will you feel good about what you’re putting in your body (read: no headache or sluggishness post-drink), you won’t get that sugar-spike—and following sugar crash—that many NA beverages induce. This is because Ghia is sweetened by real fruit, from dates to plum, which also contributes to its bold, rich color. And, by not relying on refined sugar or artificial sugars like stevia or monk fruit, you consume way less sugar with Ghia than a classic spritz (3 grams vs 17 grams to be specific) and less calories (20 calories vs 200 calories). In fact, one of the first things I noticed is that Ghia didn’t leave that sugary coating in my mouth that I typically experience with a classic spritz or artificially-laden beverages.

Who It’s For

A big appeal of Ghia is that it’s a brand for everybody, not just non-drinkers. Masarin explains, “Ghia was centered around inclusivity on so many different levels: We wanted the drink to be able to be consumed by pregnant women, we wanted the drink to be non-triggering to people who were in recovery, we wanted to make sure the drink would be safe and wouldn’t buzz you in any way.”

And yes, it’s worth noting that Ghia sits at a more premium price point, but there’s a reason for that. You’re paying for real, high-quality ingredients with no artificial sweeteners or flavors, a complex, bold taste crafted without shortcuts, and a bottle that you’ll want to show off. To put this in context: the price pales in comparison to the care, craftsmanship and feel-good energy you’ll experience with every sip.

So whether you’re part of the 38% of Americans who abstain from alcohol (according to a 2023 Gallup poll) or simply want to change up your routine, Ghia will become a habit you’ll want to keep. Because not many drinks will make you feel pulled together, grounded and like you’re making a “good for you” choice, even on days when everything else feels a little unpredictable.

Opt-out without the sacrifice with Ghia.
