What if we told you you could finally have a cookie without feeling any of the guilt about eating sugar, preservatives, or animal byproducts? What if we also told you it was completely safe to eat the dough raw, because it’s completely vegan (and thus, egg-free)? And what if on top of all of this, the cookie was also gluten-free and actually good for you? Lucky for you, such a cookie exists. It’s being made by the team behind Deux (pronounced “dough”), the brand whipping up cookie dough that won’t leave you feeling sluggish or bloated, and finally making the enjoyment of a sweet treat guilt-free.
+ With cookies, consistency is key, and Deux’s cookies stay soft and doughy over the span of days, unlike other gluten-free brands
+ Deux’s cookie dough allows you to make your cookies as small or large as you want.
+ Deux’s Dessert Spreads enhance the brand’s already scrumptious cookie dough.

Deux is the Dough
Deux was founded in 2020 by Sabeena Ladha, a junk food lover who was fed up with cookie doughs that were chemical-ridden and made her feel awful after eating them. She started experimenting and quickly grew a cookie dough business using better-for-you ingredients, like organic oat flour, cashew butter, flaxseed, and organic maple syrup. She was able to create a gooey and delicious cookie that was completely vegan and gluten-free without sacrificing the soft texture that makes any other cookie so addictively lovable.
Not only did Ladha create a much healthier cookie than can be eaten by folks with certain food sensitivities, but she’s infused her cookies with adaptogens, or plant substances that help our bodies manage stress and restore balance after taxing situations. For example, her Birthday Cake cookie dough ($16), in which even the sprinkles are made out of natural ingredients you can pronounce, is made with Vitamin D and organic reishi mushroom powder, both of which are powerful immune system boosters. (Reishi mushroom powder also aids in improving your sleep quality.) The Cookies & Cream ($16) option will give you a boost of ginseng, which can help reduce inflammation, and the limited-time Matcha Cookie Dough ($16) is made with ceremonial-grade matcha for a dose of antioxidants, and organic alfalfa grass, which may help control blood sugar levels.
Deux cookies are made with 25% less sugar and 35% less carbs than other cookies on the market, but the brand has received feedback about how the cookies aren’t quite “low-calorie enough." Each serving has about 110 calories, but I love what Ladha has to say on the topic, which is that calories do not disqualify a food from being good for you, and not all calories are the same. The ingredients in Deux are meant to fuel your body, and I can honestly say I’ve never felt better after eating a dessert.
Deux Ways to Deux
The best part about Deux has to be that you can enjoy the dough in two ways: as a baked cookie or straight from the container. Deux cookie dough is just as delicious raw as it is after spending some time in the oven, which is great for anyone who can’t be bothered to do any baking but still wants to safely enjoy a cookie substance. For those of you who could happily spend every day baking, Deux cookies are probably the easiest and fastest pastry endeavor you’ll ever undertake: after rolling the dough into spheres of whatever size your heart desires (though each Deux jar technically has enough dough to make twelve medium-sized cookies), all you have to do is squish them down to a thin disc and pop them in the oven for seven to eight minutes. You’ll have soft, chewy cookies that’ll keep their gooey consistency over the length of several days… though we bet you’ll probably devour them all in one sitting.
There is yet a third way to enjoy Deux’s delights, and that is by pairing them with one of the brand’s two dessert spreads: Hazelnut Cocoa ($16) or Cookie Butter ($16). Also known as “Drips,” these dessert sauces can be drizzled over your cookies, used as dunking material, or enjoyed on their own. Deux calls the Hazelnut Cocoa Spread the “first-ever functional ‘N*tella’,” because it’s also made from adaptogenic ingredients, and the Cookie Butter option tastes just like Speculoos cookies (the cookies we all love getting for free on flights). Both drips are made with aloe vera and Vitamin C to support healthy, glowing skin and are, like all other Deux products, also vegan and gluten-free.
Deux has changed the way we think about one of our favorite sweets: it no longer has to be unhealthy for us, make us feel guilty for eating it, or weigh us down with processed and artificial ingredients. Cookie dough is now something that can be good for you without losing any of the qualities that made us love it in the first place.
5 More Reasons to Love Deux:
- Deux didn’t stop at cookies and drips. There’s also a growing offering of doughnuts that are “perfectly poppable at any time of day.”
- Deux invites you to build your own pack of favorite cookie doughs, drips, or doughnuts, for which you’ll be rewarded with free shipping.
- Deux’s cookie jars are recyclable but also cute enough to use as small storage containers.
- Want some Deux for when you’re on-the-go? The Deux Best Sellers Mini Pack ($48) is for you: all of Deux’s most popular doughs in tiny, four-ounce containers you can tote around with you wherever you go.
- Want a little hint of Deux throughout the day? The Deux x DedCool Lip Balm ($12) in a Chocolate Chip Cookie flavor will stave off any craving until the next time you can get some of your favorite dough.
