While traveling is off the table amidst this seemingly never-ending pandemic, local day trips are a must, and you need the proper carry-all to cater to your every need. Brevitē created a functional, aesthetically oriented, innovative backpack and camera bag I’m loving right now. With over 1500 five-star reviews these bags are sure to cater to both city dwellers and outdoor adventure seekers alike. As a concrete jungle shutterbug and nature lover myself, I tested both bags and I’ve found endless uses for each.

Carrier Vision

Brooklyn based brotherly trio, Brandon, and twins Dylan and Elliot are the masterminds behind this tech-forward brand. Brandon, a former industrial engineer, set out on a mission to create a sustainable product that carried his vision of supporting both people and the planet. In 2015, with one sewing machine and over 500 prototypes later, their original hybrid camera backpack was born.

Brevitē, pronounced "Brevity", offers two types of bags: an everyday backpack and a camera backpack. Under these two umbrellas, there are a handful of designs to fit your aesthetic desires and your lifestyle. Brevitē believes a hiking backpack has no place on the subway or in the boardroom, evident in their functional designs and fun color options. You can even take their quiz to see which bag fits your specific style and needs.

Bagged A Good One

And while it seems like Brevitē has your back covered, they’re equally focused on sustainable practices.  For 2021, they’re aiming to incorporate recycled material into all of their designs. As stewards to the planet, they adhere to the ethos to “buy less, use more”. In 2020 they donated over $180k to New York-based charities during the pandemic. BRAVO! Brevitē also works closely with their manufacturers in Vietnam, ensuring the well-being of the bags’ hands-on creators.

Testing 1 - 2 - 3

How many bags do I currently have in rotation? Too many. I have one for barre class, one for the beach, one for hiking, one for client meetings, one for my art supplies to paint in the park, one for running errands, and four (yes FOUR) for all of my camera gear. I needed the quintessential Mary Poppins carry-all for my multifaceted life.  In an effort to practice sustainability by buying and using less, Brevitē has helped me to consolidate my many bag needs into two must-haves - The Runner Photo and The Brevitē Backpack.

Shutter Bag

I picked up my first film camera when I was 7. My grandmother woke me up at 4:30 AM, drove me into the Arizona desert, and taught me to shoot the sunrise with a black and white film camera. An obsession and passion were born, and I’ve been collecting equipment ever since.

A few years back, I regrettably left my camera bag in my car, only to find it stolen the next morning. Feelings of violation and loss aside, I’m still slowly replacing all of my gear. Since that loss, I’ve yet to find a bag that doesn’t scream, “TAKE ME HOME WITH YOU”, until now. Brevitē’s Runner Photo has solved this problem. This lightweight and sleek “moonlit blue” colorway looks more like my Psych101 books and pencil box would be stashed inside, rather than thousands of dollars in camera equipment.

Smart Design

The stealth minimalistic design has compartments for anything and everything you can think of. Mine currently holds two different size DSLR’s, and two large lenses in the main compartment. But it’s the attention to detail in its functionality that’s truly mind blowing. There’s an access point on the side of the pack that easily allows you to slide your camera out, without having to remove the entire bag from your shoulders. This easy entrance point makes on the fly point-and-shooting a breeze. There’s also plenty of room for several flashes, cords, backup drives, passports, a change of clothes, and more.

I swear this bag does everything for you except actually take your photos.

In addition to multiple secret pockets, there are removable/adjustable padded compartments to help hold the structure of the bag. It’s also equipped with a luggage pass-through strap, a tripod holder, a built-in water bottle sleeve, and a separate water-resistant compartment for up to a 16” laptop, making on-the-go editing easy. The zippers are a little sticky to open and close, but that has a function too. They’re weatherproof! I swear this bag does everything for you except actually take your photos.

Carried Away

For an everyday-go-to-carry all, I opted for Brevitē Backback in Boulder Tan. It has a minimalist design wrapped in smart sophistication. It’s compact, yet incredibly spacious. Like my new camera bag, the Runner has a separate compartment for up to a 16” laptop, luggage pass through, and a secret compartment for your cell phone, passport, or wallet. I’ve dedicated this bag to house my numerous art supplies. It’s the perfect tote to bring to the beach or park as it also has a stretch sleeve for a water bottle - or wine bottle *wink*.

The functionality and wearability options of these bags are as endless as your imagination. Regardless if you’re in a concrete jungle or the Amazon jungle, Brevitē has your back covered!
