Certain things you do tell me that you are an adult. And not just technically, by age, but energetically speaking, a real, functioning adult.

Maintaining all of your medical records. Using wool dryer balls. Making and using a weekly grocery list. Doing dishes the minute they are done being used. Taking a daily multivitamin.

These things may seem small, but they tell me you have taken a certain level of responsibility for your own life. That’s pretty mature. And while I’ve prided myself that, as I hit 30 this year, I’ve taken a new interest in taking great care of my belongings, my space, and myself; taking a multivitamin is a habit I just cannot get to stick.

So when I had the chance to try AG1’s new Essentials Gummies, I thought: challenge accepted.

Essential Nutrition, Everyday

You probably already know about AG1 for their greens powder, which replaces your daily multivitamin, pre- and probiotic, antioxidant, and superfood supplements with just one scoop. This summer, AG1 expanded their roster into something even more convenient, and more delicious: gummy vitamins.

Like the beloved powder, the AG1 Essentials Gummies are a one-stop shop for your daily nutrition support. The gummies come in single-serve packets, each housing eight little bites that deliver 50 vitamins and minerals, 5g of prebiotic fibers, and a blend of greens. Together, these ingredients work to fill gaps in your nutrition, boost your energy, and support your gut and immune health. And unlike some supplements that are a struggle to even swallow, AG1’s Essential sGummies actually taste good.

These gummies pack a lot of nutrition into a small serving. But what don’t they include? They’re free of GMOs, as well as allergens such as gluten, dairy, egg, and peanuts. What really impressed me is that they’re also NSF Certified for Sport. This mark means the product has undergone independent testing and is certified to be free of contaminants and substances banned by major sports leagues, and verified for label accuracy. Not only does this mean this product is a safe choice for competitive athletes, but it tells any consumer this is a quality product that is safe for consumption. And I appreciate that the brand took that extra step.

A Habit That Can Actually Stick

I could dive even deeper into the science of the gummies, list all of the ingredients and their benefits, but I think what’s most interesting about these supplements isn’t their makeup. It’s their psychology.

I was gifted the book Atomic Habits recently, so I’ve been deep in habit-building mode. Author James Clear outlines the four laws for building good habits: make it obvious, make it attractive, make it easy, and make it satisfying. Combining two (or three, or four) of these laws is supposedly the key to turning something you do now and then into a locked-in routine.

For years, I’ve had a drawer filled with a variety of supplements I spent quite a lot of money on, but have failed at taking consistently. Some of the pills are meant to be taken in the morning, some in the evening. Some need to be taken with food; others 20 minutes before food. I made a handwritten list with all of these specific directions, hoping that would help, and while it did for a few weeks, the routine was riddled with too much friction. My life doesn’t need to revolve around taking supplements. It was too much mental energy, so I gave up and now just take them as needed.

This is where the AG1 Essentials Gummies work their magic. They are easy. You only need to take one packet a day. You chew your gummies, and you’re done; you don’t have to think about your supplement regimen anymore.

And the packaging, while I thought it was a bit wasteful at first, really only adds to that ease. Throw them in your bag and take them on the go, wherever you go. The packaging also helps make the habit obvious. Because the serving is ready to go, you can leave it out on your dresser, next to your toothbrush, in your dopp kit on a trip – whenever you see that bright green little bag, you know it’s vitamin time.

And dare I say, the gummies meet law #4 too: make it satisfying. They taste yummy. Sure, they are no Haribo, but for vitamins they taste pretty good. You can thank the 4g of added cane sugar for that one. While some might not like the added sugar, I do think that if it makes you much more apt to take the vitamins, it’s worth it.

75+ high quality ingredients.

My Essentials Experience

I’ve only been taking these gummies for about two weeks. I received a 30-day supply (as well as a 90-day option), so I imagine when I finish the bag I might notice more pronounced effects. That said, my general experience with vitamins is that I don’t really notice a difference until I stop taking them. A supplement isn’t a magic wand, but over time it might make you feel more regular, or you might notice you get sick less often. I’ve always felt these effects gradually, and only really noticed I was worse off without them once I stopped taking them, which I think is a good way to know that vitamins are actually doing something.

What I have noticed in just two weeks is that taking these gummies is a habit I can actually keep up with. I leave the full big bag on my desk. At some point during the workday, I want a little something sweet, and I reach for my gummy vitamins. AG1 says they taste like a mix of strawberry, apple, and citrus. Truthfully, I don’t really get any pronounced flavors, but there’s a nice sweetness there. I I know they’re not candy, but I feel like I’m tricking my brain into wanting a little treat that’s actually good for me. I love the added fiber, which is something I am always trying to add more of to my diet. Yes, I am fiber-maxxing.

The Bottom Line

In a perfect world, I would get all of the vitamins and minerals I need from diet alone. But unfortunately, my world isn’t perfect; sometimes my ideal dinner is a box of mac and cheese with no greens in sight.

While I am someone who cares about wellness, I do struggle with complicated habits. As they say, admitting is the first step. Being honest with myself and accepting that there’s a good solution out there for me, albeit not a perfect one, finally got me to keep up with a multivitamin. That’s pretty mature, huh?

Now I’m one of those daily multivitamin takers. So I guess you could call me a real adult. Thanks, AG1.
