I Thought Wool Was an Itchy Winter Material. Oh, Was I Wrong

At this point, we have established that popular household items like tupperware and water bottles are often full of microplastics. Something fewer people are talking about? Many popular clothing materials – like polyester and acrylic – are made of plastic, too. What’s more: those clothes are touching your skin all day long.

The more research I’ve done, the more intentional I've become about avoiding synthetic fabrics whenever I can. I'm reaching for natural fibers like 100% cotton, linen, and – most surprising to me – wool (turns out I owe the material a huge apology). Merino wool specifically has turned into my go-to material for workout and casualware, and I truly can’t stop talking about it. Woolly is the brand that converted me, and I’m all in. Here’s why.

It Performs Like Performance Fabrics

I always thought workout clothes essentially needed to be synthetic if I wanted them to perform. The more I've learned about how much plastic and forever chemicals are woven into our wardrobes, though, the less interested I've become in buying more of it. Merino wool is naturally moisture-wicking, dries surprisingly quickly, and regulates body temperature in summer and winter. It has plenty of stretch but holds its form, and it’s much softer than the “grandma sweater” wool you’re imagining. Woolly uses 95–100% merino across its lineup of tees, tanks, leggings, and bras.

It Dries Quickly for All-Day Wear

Summer somehow turns every errand into a sweaty one, which usually means I'm changing clothes multiple times a day. Woolly has helped cut down on that. Sure, I still sweat, but merino dries so quickly that by the time I'm home, I'm comfortable again and ready for whatever's next. It's become one of my favorite travel fabrics for the same reason.

Pro Tip: It Doesn’t Hold Odor

To be blunt: my workout clothes typically end up smelling pretty funky after a few months. Merino wool naturally resists odor buildup, so I feel more comfortable running errands after a workout, and I expect my leggings, tanks, and bras will last me much longer. I’ve been pressure-testing them for the past few weeks in this serious heat, and they smell just as fresh as when I bought them.

Woolly Makes It Easy to Bundle and Save

These pieces aren’t cheap, which is kind of the whole point. With that said, Woolly’s bundles make trying out the brand a no-brainer. Whether you’re shopping for underwear, tops, leggings, or bras, you can bundle and save up to 25%. On top of that, the brand offers two-day shipping, so you can jump into your new threads in basically no time.

Woolly’s merino wool pieces are my summer wardrobe heroes.
