We All Know Probiotics Are Valuable For Adults – But What About For Kids?

Over the past few years, probiotics have become the hot topic in health and wellness. Rightfully so! Their benefits can range from increased regularity to immune support and even healthier-looking skin. I’ve personally noticed how much better (and less bloated!) I feel when consistently taking mine. However, finding high-quality probiotics backed by research has become more challenging. So, when I gave birth to a fussy, difficult sleeper (who definitely inherited my stomach issues), I was grateful that my doctor recommended a trusted probiotic to help. It turns out our littlest ones can benefit from taking probiotics, too! Here’s why – and the brand I wholeheartedly recommend.

What Are Probiotics?

I feel inclined to start with the big picture because it is too easy to chat about probiotics without actually understanding what they do! Probiotics are live microorganisms that promote the growth of good bacteria and help get rid of bad bacteria. Our body needs these friendly bacteria to keep us balanced and feeling our best, but stress and anti-bacterial products (among many other things in our modern lives!) can hurt our good bacteria. Enter probiotics to the rescue!

Are They Good For Little Ones?

In short, yes! It’s important to make sure that you’re choosing the right strains and formulations for your little one depending on their age and health. Certain probiotic supplements can reduce the risk of gastrointestinal symptoms and occasional diarrhea in children, in addition to helping strengthen their immune system and protecting against illness and allergies.*

How Do I Choose A Probiotic?

Our doctor recommended BioGaia’s Protectis Probiotic Drops with Vitamin D as they contain their patented probiotic L. reuteri (which is naturally found in breastmilk), in addition to 400 IU vitamin D3. The brand is backed by 30 years of research and 260+ clinical studies, and these drops are the most clinically studied probiotic for colic (!!). They’re easy to administer (5 drops a day on a tiny spoon!), and they totally work – a 10/10 from my family!
