Our team is dedicated to finding and telling you more about the web’s best products. If you purchase through our links, we may receive a commission. Our editorial team is independent and only endorses products we believe in.
With brands sending free stuff to the microest of influencers, we decided it’s high time for a roundup series that includes exclusively products that have been purchased and loved outright by people you know, people you follow, and people you’ve definitely heard of. Think of Receipts as a fun-things-only money diaries.
Between work trips, meeting with buyers and retailers to spread the “vino gospel” about Juliet Wine, and weekends away visiting friends and family, it’s safe to say that founder Lauren De Niro Pipher is used to being up, up, and away (she told us she’s taken 30+ trips so far this year alone).
Whether she’s 30,000 feet in the air or two feet on the ground, Lauren has her travel essentials on lock. Everything she shared with us are items she takes with her on all of her journeys – including a bag of wine and a bag to carry said wine.

“I’ve tried countless eye masks to combat the inevitable puffiness and dullness that comes with flying, but these outshine them all. I always lean on them after a long-haul flight when I have to go straight to work—they legitimately work. And with the eye area being so delicate, sticking to Dr Alexiades’ clean, highly active ingredients derived from nature is a must. Bonus Tip: If you really want to indulge, these fit nicely under the right eyemask on a red eye.”

“My primary use for the Oura Ring is to track the quality of my sleep. I tend to push myself pretty hard, especially when I’m on the road, so by tracking my restfulness and readiness on such a quantitative level, I’m more apt to give myself grace and take a rest when I need it the most. First thing in the morning, I’ll check the Oura app for my Readiness and Sleep Scores. If they are high, it gives me an extra psychological boost, and I will push myself as hard as I can. If they are low, I will take it a little easier that day, likely skip the early morning workout, and do the best I can.”

“I discovered this aromatherapy oil in my mid-20s while working for Virgin Galactic and haven’t flown without it since. I dab a few drops directly under my nose before we take off. The lavender relaxes me and the citrus notes help mask any unpleasant odors that might arise in the air. It smells heavenly, lasts long, and has saved me from a seatmate’s intense in-flight food choice many times. I love a tuna fish sandwich but it doesn’t belong on an airplane.”

“I cherish my sleep, and the right eye mask can mask a big difference in how much shut eye I catch on the road. Both of these really block out unwanted light. I travel with two eye masks. The foam version is for the plane – hollow around your eyes, which I find more comfortable when I’m wearing contact lenses. It’s also easily replaceable if it somehow ends up tangled in a blanket and eventually on the floor. The silk version is more of an indulgence to use at whatever hotel or house I’m staying at when I land. It needs to be handwashed and makes me feel more comfortable since I wear it in my own home as well.”

“Creating consistency while on the road helps me adjust to my surroundings, feel safer, and sleep better. In most hotels, this silk pillowcase is a must. Almost anywhere I am staying, I layer this pillowcase on top of whatever the hotel has provided. Scratchy face, be gone. It’s washable, durable, and takes up so little space in my bag. I have two at home because sometimes my turnover from one trip to another is really quick.”

“This clean facial balm locks in moisture for hours on end. Right before boarding a flight, I lather this balm onto my face and neck. It has a really soothing smell and gives me that just-had-a-facial glow. It is made of clean ingredients that are long-lasting, and it doubles as a lip balm.”

“This is our most award-winning wine – a crowd pleaser all year round, and makes the perfect host(ess) gift. We use sustainable, clean ingredients, to produce low-sugar wine with no artificial additives. Can’t beat the price, either. Anytime I check a bag, this comes with me to my destination! It’s usually to bring to an investor or new prospective buyer I am meeting with, occasionally a hostess gift if I’m staying with friends, and if nothing else, it guarantees I have great wine at my hotel.”

“I’ve been writing in notebooks forever, and while I occasionally stray from Smythson, they’re still my favorite. I switched to the crocodile embossed leather a few years ago and always choose a new color when my previous book fills up. This stone color is particularly nice, and it’s going on my Christmas list. I love to use this for Journaling, notetaking, jotting down random ideas for Juliet, lists of wines to try, letters to myself, letters to others, which I’ll never send. Lots of things.”

“This is my hand cream of choice, and it lives in my handbag rent-free. I wash or sanitize my hands many times during a long flight and a great moisturizer must follow! It’s fast-absorbing and this little travel tube seems to last me a long time.”

“These are so cozy, soft, and easy to fit into any suitcase. Another item for the hotel stay which creates consistency and a feeling of being a little more ‘at home.’ I swear I’m not a germiphobe, but I’m not always a fan of walking around barefoot in a hotel room. These soft slippers solve the problem perfectly.”

“My olfactory sense might be my strongest sense (hence all the items on this list with beautiful aromas, including Juliet Pinot Noir). Anything I can do to make my environment smell more pleasant and more familiar when I am traveling, I will. I light this candle pretty immediately after checking into a hotel. It’s burning while I unpack, shower, get ready for the day, all of it. This way when I come back at night, its warm, familiar scent will fill the room. Le Labo candles burn long and strong, so even 30 minutes with this and the entire room smells like orange blossom.”

“This is a library at my fingertips ! ‘Reading is a conversation,’ and being on my own a lot, books keep me company. I love great wine, food, and the ambiance and energy of a restaurant, so this Kindle comes with me to whatever local spot I can find on the road. I’m usually reading three-to-four books at a time, so this allows me to jump between authors and genres depending on my mood, and it takes up barely more space than my cell phone.”

“I need a durable, classic, oversized bag to carry all of my things! This bag comes with me everywhere (and the wine stains inside will prove it). It’s an in-cabin essential. Just like great wine, this will never go out of style.”
