With brands sending free stuff to the microest of influencers, we decided it’s high time for a roundup series that includes exclusively products that have been purchased and loved outright by people you know, people you follow, and people you’ve definitely heard of. Think of Receipts as a fun-things-only money diaries.
Erica Choi knows a thing or two about good taste. As the co-founder and esthetician behind the vegan Korean skincare brand Superegg and a former VP of Design at Barneys New York, she’s spent years working at the intersection of beauty, fashion, and design. These days, she splits her time between New York and Seoul, where she’s continuing to explore what it means to create a beautifully considered life.
Balance, she tells The Quality Edit, is “something that has always been at the center of Superegg, but increasingly it shapes the way I think about everything: work, beauty, wellness, travel, and even the things I choose to own.” That same intentionality extends to the way Choi shops. “I’ve become much more interested in finding the right thing,” she says. Whether it’s skincare, clothing, coffee, or something for her suitcase, she looks for pieces that strike the perfect balance between form and function—and, ideally, become things she’ll reach for again and again.
Before The Receipts
TQE: You’ve worked in fashion and design, founded Superegg, and split your time between NYC and Seoul — how has moving between those worlds shaped your personal taste and the way you shop?
Erica Choi: “I think moving between New York and Seoul has made me much more intentional about what I bring into my life. New York trained my eye in a very particular way. I spent years in fashion and design, where you’re constantly absorbing the smallest details and the mix of cultures and perspectives around you. Seoul has a different energy and an incredible sensitivity to beauty, ritual, and innovation. I love moving between those two perspectives.
Over time, I’ve become less interested in having more and much more interested in finding the right thing. I tend to buy pieces that are beautifully designed but also genuinely useful, things I’ll reach for over and over again. Whether it’s skincare, a coat, a chair, or something tiny for my bag, I’m always looking for that balance between form and function. I also love discovering things when I travel. There’s something special about an object carrying a memory of where you found it.”
TQE: What does a really good day look like for you right now? Where are you going, what are you doing, and what are you reaching for along the way?
EC: “A really good day starts quietly. I love having a little time in the morning before looking at my phone: skincare, coffee or tea, and a few minutes to think about the day before everything starts moving. The sweetest kitten also entered my life earlier this year, so my mornings are now spent with her, feeding her, cleaning her litter box, and playing a little hunting game. It’s been such a heartwarming and rewarding change to my routine.
From there, every day is different. I might be working on Superegg product development, reviewing packaging or creative, shooting something for Egg Canvas, meeting with the team, or spending the day walking around New York or Seoul between meetings. My evenings tend to be event-filled, so I especially appreciate those quieter moments during the day. I actually get a lot of ideas when I’m walking. I’m constantly noticing a beautiful storefront, an unexpected color combination, packaging, flowers, food, architecture. Those little details eventually find their way into my work in some form.
My favorite days have some combination of creating, discovering something new, eating something delicious, and spending time with people I love. Then I like coming home and slowing everything down again. I’m often working right up until bedtime, but I’m learning how much I need both sides of the day, the movement and the stillness, for my mental and physical well-being.”
TQE: What’s one thing your readers would be surprised to learn about your lifestyle or daily routine?
EC: “I have a Virgo stellium, so the Virgo tendencies run pretty strong. I love organization, details, lists, and making the most of my time. Sometimes I feel like every minute needs to be productive, whether that’s listening to a podcast or reading a news article while I’m walking or on the train.
But the funny thing is that I also really value doing absolutely nothing. My work and travel can be very visual and very full, so I’ve become protective of quiet time. Sometimes I need to empty my head, pay attention to what’s happening around me, and let myself just be. I’m learning that not every moment needs to be optimized or filled, which is perhaps the most un-Virgo thing I can do.
I also think people might assume that because I work in beauty, I have an extremely complicated routine. I’m actually much more of a ritual person than a maximalist. I love beautiful products and discovering new things, of course, but ultimately I come back to what works and what makes me feel good. Consistency is more important to me than having a hundred steps.”

What’s Worth Buying (And Rebuying)
“This has become one of my favorite ways to bring a little more intention into my skincare routine at home. I’ll put it on while I’m answering emails, reading, or winding down at night, and I like that it forces me to slow down for a few minutes. It feels like an at-home extension of the treatments I already love.”

“I’ve always loved the ease of a cushion foundation, and this gives me that fresh, luminous finish I’m always looking for without feeling too heavy. I prefer makeup that still lets my skin look like skin, and this is so easy to tap on wherever I need a little coverage. The compact is beautiful, and makes it perfect for my bag and for traveling.”

“This is one of those inexpensive beauty finds that I keep coming back to. The tip is so fine that I can get really close to the lash line and keep the look subtle, or build it up when I want more definition. I’m very particular about eyeliner, and sometimes the simplest products end up becoming the essentials. I stock up on this every year during my annual Tokyo trip.”

“Fragrance is very emotional for me. I love scents that feel intimate and become part of your presence rather than entering the room before you do. Although I usually gravitate toward green or woody scents, CLOSER has a light, tea-like warmth that I really love. I also enjoy discovering Korean fragrance brands that interpret scent through their own cultural point of view.”

“Miyeok-guk is one of those foods that immediately feels comforting and familiar to me. OMA makes it so easy to have, especially when I’m busy or traveling and want something warm and nourishing without having to cook an entire meal. Paired with rice, it’s a perfect, simple meal. It feels nostalgic, but adapted perfectly for how I actually live now.”

“Coffee is a very important part of my morning ritual, but I’m not always interested in turning it into a project first thing in the morning. This gives me the precision and quality I want while still being incredibly easy to incorporate into my everyday routine. It’s also one of those appliances I genuinely enjoy having out on the counter.”

“I’ve been trying to be more consistent about incorporating creatine into my routine, and I love that this combines it with the hydration I’m already reaching for throughout the day. With meetings, workouts, travel, and everything in between, anything that simplifies my wellness routine is a win for me. I keep these on hand because they’re so easy to throw in my bag and actually remember to take.”

“I’m naturally someone whose mind can keep going long after the day is over, so my nighttime routine has become increasingly important to me. I like incorporating this into that transition from work mode to rest mode. I’ve become much more intentional about sleep and winding down, especially because I can really see and feel the difference when I’ve rested well.”

“I love the ritual of having a drink at the end of the day or when I’m out with friends, but I don’t always want the alcohol. A Negroni is one of my favorite cocktails, so this lets me keep the ritual and the flavor without necessarily having a cocktail. It’s also great to have at home for guests.”

“I’m not a huge dessert person, but soft serve, frozen yogurt, ice cream, and gelato are all my weaknesses. Softville is a new spot in the city that has quickly become one of my little treats. I love that something so simple can make a day feel a little more special, and I’m always happy to plan a detour around good gelato.”

“My wardrobe tends to be quite edited, so I’m drawn to pieces that can do a lot without feeling basic. I love the proportions of this jacket. It has the structure of tailoring but still feels relaxed, and the cropped silhouette works with so many things I already own. This is exactly the kind of piece I can throw on repeatedly and style differently each time.”

“Pleats Please has always represented such a beautiful meeting of design and practicality to me. These are incredibly easy to wear, even more so than jeans for me. They can be dressed up or down, but the shape and movement make even a very simple outfit feel considered. They also travel so well, and the pleats are especially forgiving when you’re living out of a suitcase.”

“I love a classic shape with something unexpected about it. The Mary Jane silhouette feels timeless, while the embellishment gives these just enough personality. I can wear them with something very simple and suddenly the shoes become the entire look, which is usually how I like to approach getting dressed.”

“I loved Pachinko, so I was really looking forward to Min Jin Lee’s next book. I’m always interested in stories about Korean identity and the diaspora, especially when they explore the complexities of living between cultures rather than trying to simplify that experience. As a Korean-American, those questions of ambition, family, belonging, and identity naturally resonate with me.”

“I travel enough that luggage has to be genuinely functional, but of course I still care about the design. The trunk shape makes packing and organizing everything so much easier, especially for longer trips. It’s an absolute must-have for me when I travel to Seoul for months at a time. It’s spacious, durable, and beautifully considered, which is basically my criteria for anything I’m going to use constantly.”
