Breaking the Spring Cleaning Cycle

Every year around this time, there’s a noticeable shift in how people approach their spaces – more specifically their closets. I’ve noticed that spring cleaning culture has become less of a suggestion and more of an opportunity to fully reset. Donation bags get filled, toss piles grow, and there’s this collective push to clear everything out and start fresh.

Though this may clear up your personal space, discard adds up quickly. According to the Council for Textile Recycling, Americans discard an average of 70 pounds of textiles per person each year, and not everything makes it to a second life. Organizations like Goodwill Industries International say that a significant portion of donated items still end up being recycled or discarded due to condition or sheer volume.

This spring, I’ve decided to try a different approach instead of feeling like I need to purge my closet just to refill it again. I've been thinking more about how I want things to last. The cycle of clearing everything out, buying to be on trend, and ending up in the same place a year later doesn’t really appeal to me anymore.

There’s been a lot more online conversation lately around investing in pieces rather than buying on impulse, so I’m approaching this spring with that in mind, taking a step back to look at what I already own—what I’ve kept for years, what I reach for daily without thinking, what still feels versatile and true to me.

As I was pulling everything together, I started to notice a pattern—more and more of the pieces I rely on were coming from the same place, and the investments I wanted to make kept leading me back to a go-to, familiar, reliable one-stop shop: Quince.

Women’s Clothing Picks

100% Leather Stand-Collar Jacket

I’ve added so many of these to my Pinterest fashion boards, and I’ve been watching the stand-collar takeover happen across trench coats, bomber jackets, windbreakers—you name it. And it looks chic every single time. I, too, have seen Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber sport the style, so here I am, begrudgingly giving into the trend and becoming more grateful by the day that I did.

This particular Leather Stand-Collar Jacket is the easiest layer to throw on over a tank or simple top, and while it has some weight to it, it’s not overwhelmingly heavy. Paired with a trouser pant or jeans and a pointed-toe kitten heel, I genuinely feel like I could take on the world. I got mine in the rich brown shade, and it’s the perfect layer for day or night. Plus, it’s crafted with 100% top-grain sheep leather.

If you have a larger bust, I recommend sizing up. I have a chest myself, and while the jacket fits and looks great, with real leather it’s always more comfortable to size up for better movement.

Leather Stand-Collar Jacket: The perfect layer for a gloomy LA day.

100% Organic Cotton Poplin Tiered Maxi Skirt

In LA, this Cotton Poplin Maxi Skirt is the easiest throw-on-and-go piece. It’s lightweight, breathable, and flows effortlessly, so I don’t have to think too hard about getting dressed. I’ve been wearing it with tanks, sandals, and honestly whatever bag I grab on my way out the door. It’s become one of those pieces I reach for when I want something that can shift with my day.

There’s a subtle Midsommar energy to it—the softness, the movement, that romantic, airy feel—just without the eeriness or commitment to a full theme. One thing I will say: if you’re between sizes, you can size down. The waistband has more give than you’d expect, so it still sits comfortably without feeling tight. It works with you, not against you, which is probably why it’s become a staple in my closet.

Cotton Poplin Maxi Skirt: A closet staple that I’ll be styling year-round.

Bags & Accessories Picks

Italian Leather Handwoven Tote

Oh, the amount of compliments I got the first day I wore this Italian Leather Handwoven Tote—just from taking it to my local coffee shop. I always joke that that’s Gen Z’s version of a fashion show: pulling up to your neighborhood café. This bag is a great Bottega dupe, and the leather quality feels fantastic. I was nervous this would be something I’d regret after two or three wears, but it has fully held up.

It fits my laptop, a reading book, headphones, wallet, two glasses cases (sunglasses and reading glasses), and my on-the-go hand lotion and lip gloss—with so much more room to spare. Even though the design is slender, the straps don’t dig into my shoulders or feel like they’re going to give. And as a girl who will literally leave her bag wide open (practically inviting someone to pickpocket me) this tote has a magnetic closure that keeps me in check. I got the dark brown color, and it’s made from 100% handwoven Italian leather with a 100% cotton lining. My only minor note is that I wish the lining was a bit thicker, but that’s me being picky—it doesn’t affect the integrity of the bag at all.

Italian Leather Handwoven Tote: An everything-but-the-kitchen-sink tote for packing your must-haves and much more.

100% Pashmina Wool Scarf

This Pashmina Wool Scarf ended up doing a lot more than I expected. If you’ve been on TikTok lately, you’ve probably seen how people are styling scarves with a lot of versatility right now, and I’ve leaned into that fully. I originally packed it for what I thought would be my biggest challenge—New York weather—but it’s been just as useful in LA. I’ve worn it as a wrap top, a headscarf, and layered asymmetrically over trousers, which instantly makes an outfit feel more styled. My friend told me she’s going to get her own for festival season to cover her head in the heat, and I think that’s pure genius.

And to check all the boxes, it’s made from 100% pashmina wool, ethically produced in India in WRAP-certified factories, which is something I pay attention to more now.

Jewelry Pick

14K Gold Serpentine Chain Bracelet

I have a running joke with my parents that they made me high-maintenance down to genetics, because I’m allergic to anything gold-plated. I’ve tried to be the girl who rotates jewelry depending on the outfit, but my skin shuts that down almost immediately.

So I’ve learned to invest in pieces I can actually live in.

I used to work in a jewelry store, which means I can usually tell pretty quickly when something won’t hold up. This 14K Gold Serpentine Chain Bracelet passed that test. It’s sourced from a Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) member, but what I notice more is how it wears. It sits flat, doesn’t kink, and holds its shape.

I also appreciate that the gold tone feels balanced, not overly yellow, but not dull. I’ve been wearing it nonstop. I already know I’ll be going back for the full serpentine set. Overall this piece is a 10/10 investment for a price point you’ll be happy with .

14K Gold Serpentine Chain Bracelet: I mean, look at that glow!

Voyage Nylon Split Travel Bag + Expandable Carry-On Suitcase

Travel, for me, is less about outfits and more about managing everything else that comes with them.

And after just two uses, the Voyage Split Travel Bag has made a noticeable difference. Everything has a place, and I’m not digging through layers of things just to find one item before TSA yells at me to keep it moving. This bag is lightweight and makes moving between places feel more organized, which is especially nice in airport panic mode.

The Expandable Carry-On has been just as reliable. It rolls smoothly, holds a solid structure, and expands while still fitting airline regulations. Plus, I always end up bringing more back than I left with, so having that flexibility built in means everything to me. For those of you wondering what actually fits—I was able to comfortably pack two pairs of pants, one skirt, six tops, three pairs of shoes, plus toiletries, with room to spare.

This trusted duo replaced multiple pieces I was rotating between, which probably means I didn’t have the right setup before.

Voyage Split Travel Bag & Expandable Carry-On: An efficient duo that allows you to bring those extra items you just can’t cut from the packing list.

Signature Giza Cotton Sateen Deluxe Bedding Bundle + Cotton Fisherman Throw

I’m no stranger to Quince bedding. Everyone in my life knows that, similar to floral arrangements or candles, I like to switch up my sheets with the seasons. I already own Quince’s European Linen, and my boyfriend has their Organic Airy Gauze bundle, but I’ve secretly been eyeing the sateen for a while. Once Quince restocked the Giza Cotton Sateen Deluxe Bedding Bundle espresso shade, I just had to give in.

I live in an attic bedroom in Los Angeles with poor wall insulation, which means whatever is happening outside, I feel inside. I had read that sateen is naturally breathable and temperature-regulating, and I was slightly concerned about how it would feel in warmer weather.

Then LA got hit with a mid-March heatwave (rude, I know)—and I lived to tell the tale. I could not be more grateful for these sheets. No notes. They’re perfection. The quality is incredible for the price, and it makes me excited to get into bed at night.

The Cotton Fisherman Throw is definitely more of my unsung hero, because while I may have gotten it initially for aesthetics, it’s ended up being way more practical than decorative. I reach for this blanket all the time and wrap myself up in it while working from home. I’m obsessed and will be ordering it in another color for the living room.

Giza Cotton Sateen Deluxe Bedding Bundle & Cotton Fisherman Throw: A moody, complementary pairing (that always sells out quick).

Therabody Face Depuffing Wand

How does one describe immense gratitude for a product that has become a crutch in the daily routine? Because that’s exactly what the Therabody Face Depuffing Wand is for me.

This dual temperature depuffing wand is legit. It has a cold setting is the perfect pre-makeup step—it preps my skin and gives it a tighter, more awake look. A major upgrade from my old method of using frozen Trader Joe’s mango chunks on my face (please don’t judge). The heat setting, though, is what really sold me. As a nighttime mouth breather, I tend to wake up with facial fluid retention, and this has become my holy grail. After consistent use, the difference is very noticeable. Also, it helped me relieve sinus pressure during the winter flu, which I was not expecting.

Therabody Face Depuffing Wand: Another Quince purchase staple I keep on standby.

Quince Neroli Soleil Perfume

Quince’s Neroli Soleil Perfume has been the most complimented item in this entire lineup. I’ve had people ask if I was wearing Jo Malone or Le Labo, which says everything. It has a delicate, floral-forward feel without tipping into overly candy-adjacent sweet.

I usually prefer unisex scents, but this one has me rethinking that. The bergamot and orange notes balance it out and give it depth. And for $50, it’s kind of unbelievable. I will absolutely keep repurchasing this one.

Rethinking Your Reset?

As someone who spends a lot of time writing about brands and products, I’ve learned that cutting through the noise matters—especially during a season like spring, when everything starts to feel like it needs replacing. Not everything does!

I’m a repeat Quince customer for a reason. I trust what I’m getting, I know the materials will hold up, and I don’t feel like I have to stretch beyond what’s reasonable to invest in something good. That balance is rare.

Where I’m heading personally is being more selective with what I bring in—choosing pieces I know I’ll wear, use, and come back to without second guessing. If there’s any time to make those smarter choices, it’s now. Spring cleaning doesn’t have to mean clearing everything out just to start over. It can be a reset in how you shop, what you keep, and how you avoid ending up in the same wasteful cycle year after year.
