She’s a New York Times bestselling cookbook author and recipe developer. She’s also changing literal lives with her endlessly not-boring line of mayos. Molly Baz is an effortless cool girl (even when she’s heating things up in the kitchen).
It’s her birthday, and she told us exactly what she’s looking for this year: “Things that either A) taste good, or B) make my life in the kitchen easier and more enjoyable.”
On any given day, we’ll have what Molly’s having—and her birthday is no exception. This year, that includes…
Pretty much the whole reason Ayoh exists, this sassy, spicy Italian American Giardiniera with a kick of Calabrian chilies and hot cherry peppers means business (and is TQE Editor-in-Chief-approved). Baz insisted, “Yes, I own this company, but you can never have too much mayo, and I’d be pretty stoked if someone gifted me this.”

Between writing cookbooks, developing recipes, hosting videos, and inspiring us to cook more, it makes sense that Baz wouldn’t have a ton of time to read, but when I asked why this book in particular, the answer was clear and obvious: “Because one day I will find time to read a book, and this will be the one!”

Without question, clogs have made a huge comeback, but for Baz, these kitchen-forward Birks are more than a functional fashion statement. She shared, “I lost all my shoes and am starting to rebuild the collection and obviously the most important shoe in my life is a kitchen shoe!”

If you want to feel the freedom of being naked without actually being naked, Baz reaches hard for these second-skin tanks. She told me, “Because I am pretty much always trying to remove articles of clothing in pursuit of ultimate comfort, and these tanks feel like BUTTTTTER” (and given her experience in the kitchen, we know she knows a thing or two about butter).

A big part of actualizing into adulthood is…well…becoming your own barista with a super deluxe espresso machine. Baz has zero qualms when it comes to this pick: “It’s really expensive and obviously not necessary, but I dream of having this coffee maker in my home kitchen for perfect cappuccinos every morning.”

Based on her love for the above A-Top, it’s clear Baz has a thing for butter…including this mixer, which she’s hoping will “pay homage to my butter kitchen” that she tragically lost in the Eaton Fire.

If you’re going to go big, you may as well go all the way. In her future actualization process, Baz already has vision on her accompanying coffee accoutrement, opting for a stainless steel saucer that may as well be an art piece “to go with my over the top coffee machine.”

D.S.&DURGA and Soft Services are two brands the TQE team cannot stop referencing when it comes to self-care and scent-care (just came up with that). This Buffing Bar combines the best of both, and for Baz “it smells soooo good. I think you’re supposed to use it on your body, but I use it to exfoliate my face…”

The days of gift cards being thoughtless are over, especially when it's to one of your favorite restaurants. For Baz, Queen’s Raw Bar is “an all-around perfect restaurant in LA. Snag a seafood tower and a martini, and follow it up with one of the Ayoh sandwich specials–you will not regret!!”

Even though the Eaton Fire was about five months ago, the effects of it are still being felt by many, including Baz. For her birthday, one of her ideal gifts is giving back to the people of Pasadena. “All proceeds will go directly to families affected by the Eaton Fire.”
