In 2011, juice cleanses reigned supreme, SoulCycle was more cult than class, and wellness blogs were treated like scripture. Fast forward fifteen years, and wellness has evolved dramatically. It’s rare – and remarkable – for a wellness blog to grow alongside the industry, transforming from a blog into a powerhouse spanning multiple businesses and products.
Enter Lauryn Bosstick, the brains behind The Skinny Confidential. What started in 2011 as one of the first wellness blogs has blossomed into a multi-faceted empire: a thriving product line and the uber-successful podcast network Dear Media, which includes the couple’s top-rated The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Show. From blog to brand, Lauryn has proven how to evolve with the times – without losing her distinct voice.
We sat down with Lauryn to learn more about the story behind the brand, what she’s learned along the way and how being intentional is her superpower.

We don't like
1. First things first: The Skinny Confidential has been a part of popular culture since you launched the blog in 2011. For those who may be less familiar, can you share a bit about your background and what led you to start the brand?
The Skinny Confidential started as a blog in 2011 because I was obsessed with collecting the best tips, routines, and shortcuts and putting them all in one place. I never wanted it to just be the Lauryn show. I wanted the good stuff. The kind you screenshot, save, and actually use. That approach attracted a very specific reader early on: curious, intentional, and a little discerning, and many of them are still with us today. That community became the backbone of everything we do.
From the beginning, I knew it was going to be more than a blog. I always saw it as a brand and a product line. I didn’t have every step mapped out, but I had a very clear vision and zero interest in keeping it small.
The show came later, almost accidentally. Over ginger margaritas in Cabo, my husband Michael and I decided to start recording conversations. At the time, there weren’t many shows and the format felt wide open. We recorded at home, then spent weekends driving from San Diego to Los Angeles just to tape. It was scrappy, time-consuming, and a major learning curve. Watching what it’s become now still feels surreal and something we’re genuinely proud of.
While the show and our family were growing, I was quietly working on our first product, the now-iconic Ice Roller. After corrective double jaw surgery, I dealt with intense facial swelling and cold therapy was the only thing that helped. I tried every ice roller I could find and they all broke, squeaked, or lost their cold in two minutes. I remember thinking, this should be better. So we made it better.
Today, The Skinny Confidential is a clean beauty brand designed to elevate daily routines. Everything we create is intentional, efficient, results-driven, and beautifully designed. Our goal is simple: make it easier to habit-stack wellness and self-care in a way that actually fits into real life.
2. The Skinny Confidential started as a personal blog and grew into a multi-faceted business with proven longevity. Looking back, what do you think you understood early on about building a successful brand?

That your audience is the asset. Not the logo, not the launch, not the people you wish were paying attention to you. The people already listening are the whole game. Early on, I stopped obsessing over the audience I didn’t have and doubled down on the one I did. I paid attention to what they saved, what they asked for, and what they actually used. By the time we launched our first product, they didn’t feel like customers, they felt like collaborators. They had watched it come together step by step.
When you build the audience first, product decisions get very clear. You’re not guessing, and you’re not chasing trends. You’re responding.
Our community still drives everything. Every product, every tweak, every refinement comes directly from how they live and how they use what we create. They’re incredibly smart, very discerning, and they push us to be better. I don’t see them as an audience, I look at them as the reason the brand has lasted. They’re fabulous!
3. On top of everything else, you’re a mother to three young children. In a world where ‘balance’ is hard to achieve, what does that look like for you in this season of life?
I think of balance as intention. Building a company and raising a family both require presence, and I’ve learned to be very deliberate about where my energy goes in each season. A conversation with Emma Grede on the show helped me reframe balance as thoughtful trade-offs, both short-term and long-term, instead of something static you either have or don’t.
I’m very structured with what matters most. Time with my kids and my husband lives on my calendar the same way work commitments do. When it’s scheduled, I’m able to show up fully and be present, which makes a huge difference.
I also schedule the things that allow me to operate at my best – time to think, read, create, workouts, Pilates, weight training, facials, and body work. It gives my days rhythm and clarity. It doesn’t unfold perfectly every time, but the structure supports focus, presence, and being my best in each role, whether I’m in founder mode, mom mode, or wife mode.
4. You often ask the guests on your show about their wellness and daily routines. As a busy mom and entrepreneur, can you walk us through what a typical day looks like for you?

Like many of our guests, my mornings are sacred. I wake up slowly and take ownership of that time. With three young kids and multiple businesses, mornings need flexibility, but this is the general rhythm that grounds me.
I wake around 7 with my Hatch alarm, remove my mouth tape, listen to a short morning meditation, open the shades, make the bed, and hydrate with Beauty Salt. I’ll usually layer in red light therapy while I meditate. It sets the tone for the entire day.
Between 7:30 and 8, I keep skincare light and intentional. I cleanse with spring water and an organic cotton pad, ice roll, do facial massage, and finish with Caffeinated SPF. Ambience matters a lot to me, so once the kids are up we soften the lighting, put on jazz, make breakfast, and keep things calm and present. After they eat, we either walk with the stroller or sit on the balcony while they read or color. We get morning sunlight together, which feels like a reset for everyone.
Around 8:30, once Townes and Zaza are off to school, I’ll make a coffee with raw milk and map out my day, sometimes at home, sometimes while walking with Bond. Then it’s time to move my body. I train with Sandy Brockman or Brent Hruska in Austin, and if I’m home, I’ll do a Pvolve or Pilates by Bryony.
Then I’m back home for breakfast, usually poached eggs with sourdough and kiwi, or cottage cheese with peaches. I shower, finalize my lists if I haven’t already, and then the workday begins. From there, I’m fully focused. When I’m away from my kids, I’m intentional about using that time well.
5. How has your idea of wellness evolved since the inception of The Skinny Confidential in 2011?

My idea of wellness has expanded a lot since 2011. I still love the physical tools. I’m naturally curious and enjoy experimenting with things like saunas, cold plunges, ice rolling, cutting edge facials, rebounding, and vibration machines to see what actually makes a difference.
What has evolved the most is how much I prioritize the mental side. I have learned that the way you think and speak to yourself sets the tone for everything else. Being proactive with mindset practices has become essential, especially during demanding seasons. Louise Hay’s work and meditations have been incredibly influential for me and reshaped my inner dialogue in a way that changed how I move through my days.
I am also far more intentional with my time and energy. Protecting my peace, being selective, and only committing to what feels aligned creates clarity and a calm rhythm that carries through everything I do.
Physically, moving to Austin shifted things in a beautiful way. My days have more space. I spend more time outdoors, my mornings are slower, my evenings are earlier, and I have found a lot of joy in homemaking. Creating a calm, sanctuary-like home for my family has become one of my favorite forms of wellness. Our home feels grounding, restorative, and refreshing for all of us.
6. How has your idea of success evolved?
Success has always meant autonomy to me. From a young age, I knew I wanted to work for myself and build something on my own terms.
What has evolved is how layered that definition has become. Becoming a mother and raising three young kids expanded my idea of success in the best way. A healthy, loving marriage that sets the tone for our family matters deeply to me. Feeling fulfilled in motherhood and in the family we’re building matters. Seeing the world through my children’s eyes has reshaped my perspective and even my long-term career goals.
And then there is time. Time has become one of the most meaningful markers of success. Designing a life that gives me more time with my kids and my husband, space to travel, and room to think creatively feels like the ultimate reward. Being able to build, create, and still have time to live is what success looks like to me now.
7. Is there one product that really stands out to you – perhaps because it challenged you, taught you the most, or is simply a personal favorite?

The reimagined Ice Roller is the product I reach for every single day. It has been part of my routine from the very beginning and it continues to evolve with me. From the original launch to the redesigned version, it has always been a staple. It sculpts, depuffs, and calms the skin, and it fits effortlessly into real life. I use it when I wake up, before makeup, before evening skincare, and even after the gym on my muscles.
What makes the redesign special is that it reflects growth. The softer pink, sleeker lines, and custom dust bag are not just aesthetic updates. They represent how our community has evolved alongside the brand. As our lives change, our routines change, and our standards rise. The tools we use every day should reflect where we are now and where we are going.
It is also my favorite for a very simple reason. It WORKS. The results are immediate and visible, which is always my benchmark. If a product earns a permanent place in my routine, it is because it delivers, and the Ice Roller does every single time. I genuinely cannot wake up without it. It’s quite honestly, an essential.
8. If you could leave our readers with one piece of advice – whether related to wellness, business, or motherhood – what would it be?
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s to be intentional with your energy. Build your life the same way you build a brand, with clarity, standards, and care. Protect your time, trust your instincts, and move at your OWN pace.
Consistency wins every time. I find the small choices I make daily compound into something BIG. Allow yourself to evolve, refine, and raise your standards as you grow. Life meets you where you’re at. I believe everything is happening for you.
