I Went Looking for Truly Sustainable Sheets — And Found One Brand That Passed the Test

A closer look at Cozy Earth’s bamboo sheets and Coyuchi’s organic linen.

In partnership with Coyuchi. Editor’s Note: We only select and work with partners that meet our quality standards, so you can rest assured we only endorse products we believe in.

Lately, it feels like we’re finally reckoning with the fact that plastic is everywhere — in our food, our clothes, even our water. It’s unsettling, but it’s also changed how a lot of us think about the everyday products we use without much thought.

That awareness makes bedding an obvious place to look closer (after all, we spend about ⅓ of our lives wrapped up in it). When I began poking around, I realized that the idea of “sustainably sourced” or “eco-conscious” sheets gets murky fast. As it turns out, creating truly better-for-you sheets takes real work; as a consumer, finding the brands willing to actually do that work takes a lot of research.

That’s where I come in. As I fell deeper down the bedding rabbit hole, two names kept coming up: Cozy Earth, beloved for its buttery-soft bamboo sheets, and Coyuchi, long trusted for organic, responsibly made bedding. I slept on both, read the fine print, and dug into how these materials are actually made. Here’s what I found.

Meet the Contenders

Cozy Earth: Made from viscose derived from bamboo, Cozy Earth’s sheets are famous for their ultra-smooth feel, deep pockets that fit thick mattresses, and a luxe, hotel-y drape. Below, I’m diving into the brand’s best-selling Bamboo Sheet Set.

Coyuchi: As the original organic bedding brand (seriously, they’ve been around since 1991), Coyuchi has spent decades refining how clean, responsibly made sheets should feel — prioritizing breathable construction, long-lasting fibers, and transparency from farm to finish. In this throwdown, I’ll be writing about the brand’s best-selling Organic Relaxed Linen Sheet Set.

Sustainability & Material Integrity

Cozy Earth Bamboo: While bamboo as a plant grows quickly and regenerates easily, most bamboo sheets — including Cozy Earth’s — are actually viscose, which requires intensive chemical processing to turn raw bamboo into fabric. That process can involve solvents and wastewater that complicate bamboo’s eco-friendly reputation. Cozy Earth emphasizes its ‘quality,’ but from a lifecycle perspective, bamboo viscose isn’t as sustainable or transparent as it’s often made out to be.

Coyuchi Linen: Coyuchi’s biggest strength is also its clearest differentiator: linen is naturally low-impact, and Coyuchi’s version is fully organic and certified from farm to finished product. Flax requires significantly less water than cotton, grows without synthetic pesticides, and is processed mechanically rather than chemically. Coyuchi is GOTS-certified, which is the highest standard of organic textiles and ensures the end to end process – from growing the flax to the finished product – adheres to strict standards. On top of that, Coyuchi avoids harmful finishes, dyes responsibly, and prioritizes traceable supply chains, meaning what you’re sleeping on is genuinely clean, not just marketed that way.

Winner: Coyuchi

Temperature Regulation & Breathability

Cozy Earth Bamboo: Cozy Earth’s bamboo sheets are cool to the touch and do a solid job at moisture-wicking, especially if you tend to sleep hot. That said, the heavier drape can feel slightly warmer over time compared to linen’s airy weave. I’m a notorious hot sleeper, so I noticed this, but if you’re a cool sleeper (lucky you), this probably won’t be an issue for you.

Coyuchi Linen: Linen is naturally temperature-regulating, and Coyuchi’s sheets make that obvious from night one. They allow for constant airflow, wick moisture without feeling damp, and stay comfortable across seasons. For that reason, I love linen year-round, and I’ve found these to be exceptionally breathable even on really hot nights (I live by the water, but it’s worth noting here that I don’t have air conditioning!).

Winner: Coyuchi

Feel & Sleep Experience

Cozy Earth Bamboo: There’s no denying that these sheets feel luxurious immediately. They’re exceptionally smooth (almost slippery, even) with a weighty drape that feels expensive. If you love that hotel-sheet sensation — or want zero texture — you’ll be impressed.

Coyuchi Linen: Coyuchi’s linen has more character. It starts slightly crisp, then softens quickly into that perfectly broken-in feel that linen lovers swear by. The texture feels breathable rather than slick, and after multiple washes, it hits a sweet spot: relaxed, cozy, and never clingy. I personally find the weighted texture of linen to be extremely homey and relaxing (and I love that California-chill look on my bed) and these are the most luxe linen sheets I’ve felt (and for the record, as an editor of 5+ years, I have tried many).

Winner: Depends on personal preference

Durability & Everyday Care

Cozy Earth Bamboo: These sheets hold their softness well but require more care: gentle washing, low heat, and a bit more attention if you want them to look pristine. Over time, bamboo can be more prone to wear than linen. Friendly heads up: they also get really wrinkly out of the dryer.

Coyuchi Linen: Linen is one of the most durable bedding materials out there (when created with quality), and Coyuchi’s sheets are built to last. They’re machine washable, forgiving, and designed to look better with age. Wrinkles are part of the charm here. My only note with linen is that my dryer trap is always full after drying, but there’s no real harm in that so long as you make sure to empty it after each cycle.

Winner: Coyuchi

Price & Long-Term Value

Cozy Earth Bamboo: Cozy Earth’s Bamboo Sheet Set sits firmly in the premium category, with prices starting around $258 for twin sizes and landing closer to $328 for a king.

Coyuchi Linen: Coyuchi’s Organic Relaxed Linen Sheet Set is undeniably more of an investment, ranging from $548-648. But, if you get into the cost-per-use math, things even out pretty quickly. Coyuchi’s organic flax construction is designed to soften and hold up over time – so if you spread that cost across years of nightly sleep, Coyuchi ends up being a great long-term value despite the higher upfront spend.

Winner: Cozy Earth in the short term, Coyuchi in the long run

The Verdict: Coyuchi Is This Editor’s Pick

Cozy Earth makes undeniably soft sheets — but Coyuchi makes sheets I feel better sleeping on, in every sense of the word. Between the organic materials, breathable comfort, and sustainability that actually holds up over time, Coyuchi’s linen set feels like the smarter, more future-proof choice.

If you want instant softness, bamboo will win you over fast. If you want bedding that’s cleaner, safer, and built to last, Coyuchi earns the top spot.

Try Coyuchi’s Linen Sheet Set for yourself here (it’s worth it, promise).
