The perfect weekender bag needs to be able to roll with the punches. Whether it’s a work trip, a wedding, or 48 hours of reliving your youth, your bag needs to accommodate the little things you can’t live without. So we scoured the web high and low looking for the best in class — the pinch hitters that keep you well-stocked, and look good while doing it. They’re roomy, they’re stylish, but most of all they function beautifully. When you’re sprinting through the airport, the last thing you need is style over substance.
Best Overall
We're longtime fans of Dagne Dover here at The Quality Edit, but after much public admiration for their totes, even we were bowled over by the Landon Carryall. Available in an array of sizes and materials (including shearling for the irreverent girlies), each stylish model still foregrounds functionality. The Large gets our vote for a weekend getaway, big enough to store a 16" laptop, multiple changes of clothes, and the zippered shoe bag that comes included. Add to that an Air Mesh pouch for essentials, a water bottle pocket and a sturdy sleeve that fits over luggage handles, and you've got a bag that makes airport trips a breeze. Though a higher price point than our other choices below, Dagne Dover truly provides the most bang for your buck.

Best Garment Bag
When wedding season comes calling, keeping your formalwear wrinkle-free is half the battle. Halfday has saved my life many times over in that regard, with their Garment Duffel that makes room for suits, shirts and dresses in its roomy hanging compartment. It's easy to roll up with several other ensembles, and the shoe pockets are cleverly positioned to not crowd up open space. Even the larger size has been no problem for me as a carry-on – plus I always get compliments on the chic Cactus colorway.

Best Tote
Billed as a companion for everything from workouts to "workcations", Lo & Sons' Catalina Deluxe Tote really is that Goldilocks size. It's lightweight enough that it won't tax your shoulders, but fits far more inside than you'd expect. Chalk a lot of that up to the roomy bottom pocket, which comes with a padded insert for separating dirty, sandy or sensitive clothes at the end of a long travel day. If you don't need the bottom compartment, you can unzip the panel to create one large storage space — that will still fit under the airline seat crammed way too close in front of you.

Best for Road Trips
There's no denying Béis' cool factor. The DTC brand positively dominates social media and has backed up the hype with a Best Product Award from Forbes. However, the constant refrain from critics has been that the Béis Weekender is straight-up heavy. Even when it's empty, we can confirm that lugging this bag around is no small feat… which is why we argue that it's a perfect option for when you're traveling on four wheels. Béis provides a ton of pros — thoughtfully crafted pockets, unrivaled storage for all of us overpackers — that outweigh the cons as long as you're not carrying it on your feet. Save this one for road trips and let your car shoulder the weight.

Best Backpack
Even if a roll top isn't your usual aesthetic, hear us out: the extra storage it allows is a game-changer for crowded weekend trips. It allows for a taller profile instead of a rounded zipper-top, which maximizes internal storage without adding a ton of bulk. It also keeps everything water-proof, making this backpack ideal for everything from hometown visits to off-the-grid camping trips. Though built mostly from recycled materials, the bag is sleek and tactile, feeling somehow both urban and outdoorsy at the same time. Extra shout out to the cushioned air-flow back panel, a massive temperature assist when it comes to summer excursions.

Best Under $100
It'd be easy to mistake Baggu's whimsical prints for lack of seriousness, but make no mistake: the Cloud Carry-On is built for performance. There's a pocket on this thing practically everywhere you look, with some colorways offering up to five exterior compartments. All of that customization comes in one small, convenient package, a no-brainer of a carry-on that also happens to be the right price. That leaves some room in the budget for their packing cube sets, available in the aforementioned playful prints.

Best for Making a Statement
If you're planning on being runway-ready all weekend, nothing will kill your aura faster than a ho-hum duffel. Caraa is one of the few brands designing fashion forward luggage, like their Portobello bag that feels out of the Yayoi Kusama-verse. With a silhouette somewhere between jellyfish and tufted cloud, the Portobello still has all the necessities for travel. Its snappable handles and laptop sleeve simply take a backseat to the eye-popping aesthetic — and after years of enduring drab travel bags, we're joining the grateful chorus.
