If you take a quick peek at my overstuffed closet you might not be able to tell, but I hate shopping for jeans. Shoes? Obsessed. Bags? Can’t get enough. Tops and dresses? Grab your car keys, we’re going to the mall. But I loathe shopping for jeans almost as much as shopping for swimsuits, and that’s seriously saying something.
Here’s the deal: I’m 5 feet tall, and nothing fits quite right. Everything is too long, and the jeans that aren’t too long are made for someone with a much longer torso. Jeans with ripped knees turn into jeans with rips along my shins, and don’t even get me started on trying to find a good rise. I care way more about quality than quantity, so I’m willing to pay a premium, but trying to find well-made jeans that are flattering is hard.
I’d all but given up on finding the jeans of my dreams, jeans that felt like they were made for me, when I stumbled upon AMO Denim. Admittedly, I almost didn’t even bother trying a pair on because I expected the same old ill-fitting results. But, a mix of unrelenting hope and pure curiosity got the better of me, and I am so glad it did. After trying out multiple pairs of jeans, I can proudly confirm that AMO Denim is my new go-to denim brand, and I am never looking back.
It all started with
The Billie in Leopard was the very first pair of jeans from AMO Denim I tried on, and it was love at first sight. I was drawn to the Billie style because they’re cropped, but wide leg, so my hope was that they would just fit me like a regular wide leg jean and I wouldn’t have to get them hemmed. My hunch was right— they fit like a glove. The inseam is literal perfection for my petite frame, and somehow they sit exactly where they’re supposed to on my waist, too.
These jeans are 100% cotton, so I expected them to feel stiff, almost hard, as a lot of high-quality denim tends to do, but they’re surprisingly soft to the touch. They’re relaxed but not at all shapeless, and I love how they look as much as I love the way they feel. They also come in over a dozen washes, meaning I happily stock up on a variety of colors and never wear another pair of jeans again—and honestly, I’m considering it.
I’m typically not a pattern or print girly, opting for classic neutrals instead, but something about this particular leopard print really grabbed my attention. They're neutral in their own right, and I’ve been styling them with everything from basic black tees and sandals to my favorite Adidas Spezial in Maroon. I also love that every single pair is a little bit different from the next, the result of AMO’s special wash treatment process, meaning that each one has small variations in its color and shading.

After trying out the Billie, I was hooked. I needed to know if AMO’s other styles would be equally as perfect. Next up: Hallie Straight. I needed a pair of slightly distressed jeans for casual everyday wear, and the Love Spell wash fit the bill. They’re straight leg, so they look a little bit more slouchy than the Billie style, and they’re still relaxed and soft and cozy. Just like the Billie, the Hallie is cropped, so taller people can enjoy that edgy, cool silhouette while petite people, like yours truly, can enjoy not having to get their jeans hemmed.
The Hallie Straight style has a button fly, which is incredibly flattering and gives me a little confidence boost, knowing my tummy looks good. (It’s my least favorite spot, my biggest insecurity, and these jeans help alleviate some of that.) My favorite thing about the Hallie Straight in Love Spell is that they go with everything. I have yet to find any shirts or shoes that don’t look instantly better paired with these classic, lightly distressed jeans. If I were packing for a trip and could only take a small suitcase, I would definitely be packing these versatile jeans.

Basic white tees are a big part of my wardrobe, and the ultimate test of any brand, in my humble opinion. Naturally, I had to try out one of AMO’s t-shirts and the Baby Tee fit the bill. It’s just the perfect complement to a great pair of jeans, like the Billie and Hallie, it fits me like a glove. The slight crop is so cute and flattering, but what surprised me the most was the material. It’s made mostly from cotton with a little bit of hemp, so it feels a little bit thicker and sturdier than your standard white t-shirt fare, but it’s still super soft and not even remotely stiff. Right now, it only comes in one other color, but I’m hoping more shades of this tee become available in the future.

I have been eyeing this pair of Frida flare jeans for a minute now. I’m obsessed with the high rise, wide-leg, and relaxed fit. They’re eye-catching without being flashy, and I have a feeling they’ll look good with everything from a t-shirt and sneakers in the spring to an oversized turtle neck sweater and high-heeled boots in the fall. I am particularly intrigued by how the silhouette elongates the leg, which I desperately need, and I love the wide range of color options.

Some denim trends are too good to skip, which is precisely how I feel about the Sandra Baggy. The low rise and relaxed, loose fit are so effortlessly chic, and the wide leg coupled with knee dart detail make them feel elevated and of-the-moment. I suspect that these too will look cute with basically any tops and shoes— the mark of a pair of jeans that’s actually worth the splurge. They come in two washes, but I’ve got my eye on Emotion, the darker of the two.

Good quality jeans are an investment, but finding a pair that fits like it was made for me pays dividends. Despite my overflowing closet, the truth is that two or three pairs of great jeans and a handful of well-made basic tops are all your wardrobe needs, and now that I’ve been spoiled by AMO Denim, I can’t imagine there’s any turning back. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go pick out my outfit for the day – you already know what jeans I’ll be wearing.
