In partnership with Bite.
When it comes to my teeth I don’t mess around. I floss every day, use a tongue scraper, and wear my retainer every night. Okay, if I’m being honest, it’s most nights. It’s not just the aesthetics that I care about, though. Of course, I love keeping my smile shiny and bright, but more importantly, I know that a fresh, clean mouth is a healthy mouth. I’m not a dentist, but I do know that your oral health is quite important to your overall health. And that’s something I take seriously.
So, when I was presented with the opportunity to try Bite Toothpaste Bits, I was a bit hesitant. I would call myself a toothpaste traditionalist – I’ve been using the same stuff for years now, and it works well. Why would I change it?
To my surprise, these little toothpaste bits have actually impressed me and become a staple in my routine.

Wait… What Are Toothpaste Bits?
Before we talk about my experience with Bite, it’s worth talking about the brand and what its products are.
Bite is an oral and personal care brand on a mission to make every step of your daily routine more sustainable. This starts with plastic-free products touting clean ingredients.
The Bite Toothpaste Bits are the brand’s hero product. Instead of the traditional toothpaste most of us are accustomed to, Bite puts all the cleansing power of toothpaste into pressed, bite-sized chewable toothpaste Bits. They look like small mints, each one the exact amount you need to brush your teeth.
There are both fluoride and fluoride-free options. The fluoride-free bits feature Nano-Hydroxyapatite, a mineral that helps strengthen and remineralize enamel, as the main ingredient. What’s not in each bit is as important as what is. You won’t find artificial flavors, sulfates, parabens, or harsh chemicals. You will find vegan, clean, cruelty-free ingredients — like xylitol, sodium cocoyl glutamate, calcium carbonate, and zinc citrate — that keep your mouth fresh and clean.
All of the ingredients in Bite are ones you’d find in traditional natural toothpastes like Tom’s of Maine. Zinc citrate helps control plaque and fight bad breath. Calcium carbonate works to polish your teeth and scrub away surface stains, as its a mild abrasive. Xylitol is a natural sugar that helps give the Bits that classic, sweet minty flavor we’ve all come to expect from our toothpaste. To boot, it works to inhibit the growth of cavity-causing bacteria. While many traditional pastes will use harsh sulfates to get a foamy lather, Bite goes for a cleaner alternative in the form of natural, coconut oil-derived sodium cocoyl glutamate.
A New Type Of Toothpaste

I tried the Mint fluoride-enriched Bits, as that’s an ingredient I like to use in my oral care routine. Using the Toothpaste Bits is easy – just pop one in your mouth, bite down on it, and brush with a wet toothbrush. While simple, this process is admittedly an adjustment. The Bits have a gritty texture, which does feel weird in your mouth compared to the smooth feel of a classic paste.
What I was most surprised by, though, is how clean my teeth felt after using the Bits for the first time. My breath tasted fresh and minty, and my teeth incredibly slick. It was a next-level clean. I don’t know the science of why my teeth felt so especially clean, but I am not complaining. It was a great brush and I’ve had that same clean, fresh feeling every time I use Bite.
I’ve found the pre-sized tablets great for so many reasons. First is the fact that it’s already portioned out for you. When I buy regular toothpaste tubes, I often use way more than I need. I love that Bite helps me waste less perfectly-good toothpaste.
It’s also much cleaner to use than traditional toothpaste. There’s nothing worse than getting gooey toothpaste all over your bathroom counter and sink. It gets sticky and gross. It’s a pain to clean. And Bite completely solves that problem for you. While this wasn’t a benefit I was expecting or ever thought I’d care about, I really do enjoy it.
Lastly, the bits are super travel-friendly. Instead of squeezing a whole tube of toothpaste into a small toiletry bag, I can pack the exact number of tablets I need for a weekend trip. It’s convenient and quite smart.

A More Sustainable Routine
Then, of course there’s the sustainability aspect. I love the fact that Bite makes it easy to use less plastic in my day-to-day routine. The tablets come in a refillable glass jar. When the time comes, Bite will send you a monthly supply of refills in a compostable pouch.
As a consumer, I love choosing a more eco-friendly option. If it’s at the expense of convenience, ease, and utility, I’m much less apt to make the switch. Luckily, Bite is just as convenient, easy to use, and as good of a product as any I’ve used. I feel good about the fact that I’m doing better for the planet. Even if it’s a small step, it’s a step I feel good about nonetheless.
Beyond just toothpaste, Bite has released a slew of plastic-free products including floss, teeth whitening gel, deodorant, and mouthwash bits. If you’re looking to clean up your oral care routine without sacrifice, I can’t recommend this switch enough.
